Well, it started out okay...

The first three-quarters of the commute home yesterday afternoon was great. Sun was shining, temperature was just right... All around a great time to be on a bike. It wasn't so much that the remainder of the commute was bad. It was more that it just didn't happen, what with me being hit by a car and all. Blech, what a drag.

It was just your standard last-second right hook maneuver, but it was my first wreck of any kind (car or bicycle). I'm in pretty good shape, considering. I'm a little uglier than usual in the face area, my knees and one elbow have lost quite a few layers of skin, and my ribs hurt, but hey, could have been worse.

Surprisingly, the bike fared best out of the three entities involved. Front fender got twisted up, and somehow, the bottle cage got ripped right out. Other than that, I haven't seen anything wrong. The front wheel surely took the brunt of the impact, but it still looks straight and true. On the other hand, I ripped the front bumper of the car clean off, and probably did a number on the car's fender as well.

Anyway, I've been hanging around BF for quite a while now, just haven't posted. I was planning on posting in one of the "Pictures of your..." threads at some point, so I guess I'll do that now. I took this a week or so ago, but wasn't very happy with how it came out. I suppose it'll have to do:

2004 K2 Zed 1.0. Started life as a mountain bike, was fairly quickly converted into a more road-worthy vehicle, and later made more capable of carrying a load and riding in inclement weather.

Damn, sounds like it hurt, but on the plus side, you kept all your teeth! See if you can't get a new bike or 3 out of it.

Were you in West Sac? I rode past a bike-vs-car scene at about 4:30 on West Capital Ave. The bike looked kinda like yours shown above.... and the car was more banged up than the bike!

Sorry about the accident.

Right hooks suck. Glad you're no worse off. Keep smiling. Road rash hurts more the second and third day ...

That was one of the first things I checked. A bit of a bloody smile, but all there. Whew.

Heh, yep, that was me.

I'm noticing this. Though getting it all cleaned out by the nurse wasn't exactly a bag of puppies, either. :)

ACK! Get better. Nice to hear from you!

ModoVincere 03-14-07 05:27 PM

Glad your ok after that incident.
May the road rash heal quickly.

You hush. That was cold.

Glad you're OK. Did you get the guy's insurance info and a police report?

x136 03-15-07 01:56 PM

I didn't talk to them much personally (they were older folks, didn't speak much English) but the police did, and one officer gave me his card with the report number on it, so I think I'm set in that respect.

Silly me, if all of the people in the bar hadn't called 911, I would have made sure the people in the car were okay, reattached their bumper with some zipties out of my handlebar bag, and went on my merry way.
