Carfree in Colorado Tips please

Hello,

I am looking forward to spending 6 and half weeks in Colorado Springs and all of the time I am going to be car free do you have any info that would help a fellow rider?

Did you try asking in the car-free and Mountain - Plains forums too? You might get better responses over there.

Yes, don't walk around with a liberal and proud t-shirt in Colorado Springs.

just kidding.

fat_bike_nut's response seems appropriate.

My dad has a closet full of Rush gear I could blend in real well

What part of Colorado Springs, the area is huge. Im down by Peterson, and almost never use a car.
I use the bus system a lot (my job actually gives me an unlimited monthly pass) The busses all have bike racks on them.

I would probably say somewhere between Woodland Park and the Garden Gods park network

That's a lot of steep territory! From Colorado Springs downtown to Woodland Park is 17 miles and 2500 feet of elevation gain. Hwy 24 is ridable but not necessarily the most bike friendly road on the planet. The only other road that goes all the way to Woodland Park from Manitou Springs would be Rampart Range Road which is a nice smooth dirt road but still dirt and rather 'round about in the way it gets there.

As far as I can tell the bus system (I'm in Denver) only goes as far west as Manitou Springs. I've ridden down 24 a couple of times (but never up) and it's an...um...exciting ride!
