I'd like to add my .02 about the EasySeat. This link tells the whole story, but the short version is: I had terrible experience with a traditional seat and my Doctor (who worked through med school in a bike shop) recommended the EasySeat. I love it, I've got one on each of my bikes.

There are caveats. You get a lot of bike control body-english with a standard seat without realizing it, and you lose that with an Easy seat. It took me two years to get to where I can ride hands-free with an EasySeat, and it's still not a smooth operation. Also, bike snobs will look down their noses at you.

But I'm not really into riding hands-free, and I'm not worried about bike snobs.

I've heard of at least one bike reviewer for a cycling mag who was reviewing a noseless saddle and really hurt himself when he lost control of his bike and fell. The nose of the saddle turns out to be pretty crucial for bicycle control.

From the article:

.... A study of 48 young women competitive cyclists and 22 women runners published last year in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that the cyclists had decreased genital sensation compared with the runners.....

I would have given my right arm to be the lucky guy who conducted the tests.

My exact thought when reading the article.

If <10% of cyclists are experiencing problems, I'll keep on riding.

Ok,i skimmed the posts, next month i will have ridden for 20 years, some years 10,000 miles a year, yes my junk doesnt work as well as when i was twenty, but now i am OLDER,that might have something to do with that, anyway with the meds we have now, just take a pill when the little lady feels in the mood,(most guys will not need many pills a year) Trust me on this, outside factors will dictate when you get lucky more then that bike seat will ever affect you love life

Thing is, even with a fat ass, you can still have an erection and have sex.

I also find it funny/sad that the author failed to mention recumbent bikes.

one of the noseless saddles they were talking about

i have always used a San Marcos/Era and as the above post said if you change positons stand, move forward, backward whatever one should have zero problems.
After 30 years of riding the only time I have ever experienced any kind of numbness , the tilt was wrong either too far down or up. For me once the saddle is adjusted level it represents zero problems

below is one of the saddles they were refering to

How in the heck did they measure that?

Don't answer! Don't answer!

Some things are better left to the imagination. The grant proposal would have been a doosie to write. Umm. Dear Uncle Sam, I need money to study young female athletes' genital sensations.

The idea here again is that the subjects in the study are athletes who are training for racing or racing or want to be racers. This requires aggressive, areo postures for extended periods, while seated on gram saving a** hatchets instead of comfortable, supportive saddles.

Most commuters ride at a more relaxed pace and relaxed riding posititon. I am using Brooks saddles on my commutes (28 miles Rt) and have no "issues". I will be 40 in October. If anything the opposite is true now that I am in better shape and 20lbs lighter.

Very comfortable. There is a certain amount of learning curve, but once you get used to it, there are no control problems.

And they are supposed to be set up with the front tilted down? Doesn't that just shift pressure to the wrists and elbows?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I suppose the wrists and elbows can take more punishment than the genitals.

Not if you're both so fat that the genitals can't even make contact...

I've always found that in polite company, it's best to say, "deez nuts."

Seriously, I second what everyone says about the right saddle, properly adjusted. I once ran into some unsavory pain after I got a new saddle, so I just got a different saddle and solved the problem. This is a good reason, also, never to spend a lot on a saddle.

Now, everyone's bottom is a little different, so YMMV.
