I also have a GPS on my bike. I geocache sometimes and I had the GPS before I bought my bike, so I use it instead of buying a computer.

You call that a dashboard!?

That's not a dashboard...

I feel like such a slumdog by comparison to some of your rides!

Geocaching is like a scavenger hunt game where people hide stuff and give you hints and gps coordinates and stuff. Usually using a website to put this stuff on.

Let's see....looks like there're a coupla garage door openers, thermometer, yup..okay, laser-beams..right....uhnnhh, what's the pen for? Cat-facing passed out drunks on the way home?

noglider 02-23-09 09:18 PM

That's hilarious. I can't even identify all those gadgets.

noglider 02-23-09 09:19 PM

Speaking of which, I haven't read this entire thread, but what's a good setup for audio? I don't want to wear headphones. I figure a handlebar-mounted speaker would be best.

How do you find that combination of bar ends? I am contemplating a similar combination. I am a bit worried that the plethora bolts will be a uncomfortable.

snoogly - I came up with that setup recently and haven't fully tested it yet. Preliminary tests are good though. The bar ends are cheap too, so it doesn't take much $ to experiment. I'll have to be careful how and when I'm in the drops because the brake levers are so far away. I'm expecting to try this bike for commuting. It appears to be the best of all worlds and provides even more hand positions that most other setups. The vertical bar ends are pretty typical but these were sent to me in exchange for the shipping cost from another BF member. I had already bought other black bar ends but their clamp base was wider than the bar width, the silver bar ends clamp area are no wider than the bar iteself, and took up too much room on the straight bar, especially considering the other drop bar ends and the fact that I had to move the brake levers in so they wouldn't hit the drops. The drop bar ends are not too common but someone here tipped me off. These are what I bought:

Origin 8 Bicycle Drop Bar Ends, Black
They ship from Niagra Cycle Works
http://www.amazon.com/Origin-Bicycle.../dp/B0013G6PB8

This place seems to have a big assortment of vertival bars, and a bunch have narrow clamp areas, but they are in the UK:

This is a guess, but when I first saw it, my impression was license-plate-writer-downer-on-hander.

Why 5 lights? Why these 5? What type of handlebar extender is that?

noglider 02-25-09 02:18 PM

Wanderer, what are all those things?

I love my "backwards" Trekking bars too.... I plan on getting another PB Light for the right side.... and I need something to balance the computer on the left...... The whole Obsessive Compulsive balancing thing is a real PITA

Bdop Cycling Carbon Fibre, Sooper Delux, Dashboard Extender. http://bdopcycling.com/Dashboard%20Genie.asp Straight, level, and rock solid (this thing might be stronger than the handlebars.)

The two lights on the outside are Taskforce LED (awesome light) "C" cell. Cree Emitter. Excellent light over long distance, pretty focused long. Lowes Hardware.

The middle one is a Flashpoint Flare 5, white blinky, doubles as a headlight in a pinch - it is real good in the daylight, better than nothing after dark. PBK

The one to the right of the mid, is a Cateye Opticube, good close, not far. The one to the left of the mid was free with something else I bought, a 9 LED light, similar in output to the Cateye.

The only one that resides there permanently is the blinky. The others live in my tail pack.

The small bag to the right of my stem, next to the cyclocomputer, is a small camera bag. Just right for my cell phone, I.D. a couple credit cards, and some money. I suppose I could put my camera in there, if I want.

Normal daytime configuration:

Here's my dash, now looking pretty simple, but still a mess.

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...90_1194822.jpg

Just a Filzer db4L wired computer and a couple of MEC turtle lights. I recently took my brake lever off as my calipers have seized onto the fork due to lack of use and bad weather/conditions that it's seen this winter.

jconnwsu 03-05-09 12:52 PM

Here's mine. Pretty simple. Just a UltraLite Bike Mirror, PB Blaze 1W and a Bell cyclometer, which I picked up for $8. For 8 bucks, I couldn't pass it up. :thumb:
