Bikes Which lOoOoOoOoOoOonnnnng
WIth all the which bike threads floating arround I thought I would paste up my own which bike thread
Area Colorado Springs Woodland Park area
Distance 13 to 20 miles
Current Roster as found in sig
Nishiki
C'dale FS
Bianchi Forza
the indecision
I do not want to take the FS it is slow on the road! serious bob from the shock plus the shock is unreliable. Nishiki is S/S I do not know if I can make it on grades with a big one front and a tiny tiny in the back plus I will be carrying crap with me and it is falling apart and decaying badly alots of parts need replace. I will probably take the roadie but I wanted to go on gravel paths so that means I need a cylocross bike. Although I do not want to drop 800 dollars on a new bike so I thought I would purchase a MTB frame and part out the FS although I do not know if I can get the speed I need on thoose tiny tiny 26'er wheels will they get me there in a reasonable time. Alas the 29'er how good is 29'er for bombing down dirt paths slight technical routes and commuting maybe I could take two wheel sets a road set and a 26'er set I would look pretty goofy with a wheel set strapped to my back. if you were me what would you do becides enroll in a grammar school and find a GF

Just use 29ers if they fit on the frame. i don't understand why you think the 29s on a mountain bike won't be able to handle the type of terrain a cross bike would. Or am I misreading?

If I had a mountain frame with suspension I may want to find more technical paths

It's only 20 miles - take whatever's nearest the front of the garage!

Please refrain from using ascii art in your thread titles.

all rounder
Get rid of all your bikes and buy a Rivendell Atlantis and use some 38mm tires. With this bike you won't be able to do stupid stunts off road or race in a paceline with 15 pound CF crack in half bikes but you will have a versatile machine that can be ridden in the rain, off road, for touring, centuries, fitness, decent single track and commuting. Basically a all around machine that does most normal riding well, save for the extremes of the sport like, actual competitive road racing or off road crazy antics. No point thrashing your bike or body unless you are an adrenaline junkie!

Er, unless cosmetics are incredibly important, there are cheaper steel frame cross bikes and touring bikes than the Atlantis Plus if you sink all your money into one bike, you won't feel good about locking it up anywhere for fear it will be stolen.
