Angel on my shoulder?
 

Here's my buzzed by soccer mom story. This morning I'm riding along our 4 lane parkway about 17mph and 2 feet left of the right shoulder when a black mercedes SUV overtook me. When I realize she's literally in my space I'm 2 feet right of the white shoulder line and extending my left arm out to tap the vehicle. [I missed]. I then reacted and was slightly pissed and very confused as to how I ended up safe. I did get a almost psychic blast of negativity threat just as she cleared - though I'm not sure she was even aware I was there.
I don't know how I got over 4' but I'll take that every time over being ran over.

I once stuck my arm out to the left to signal a turn and had it hit by a car. During a century, no less. Scary stuff indeed!

I was crusing about 22MPH down toward my turn into the shopping center (it's a cut-through to get on the 7100 MUP)....looked behind, and took the lane to prepare for the turn. I looked again, signaled my turn, then looked one more time - to see a Lexus SUV immediately on my left, trying to pass me (and crossing the double yellow to do so). She must have seen the look on my face, because she immediately backed off.

Also, I had two cars sitting in the crosswalks today, blocking access to the MUP (at different times).

having your own rear-view mirror helps to see what's coming, sometimes!

Aye, but only sometimes. I endure scorn from fellow roadies for the Take-a-Look but sometimes things (cars, age, etc) sneak up on ya.

Don't let them knock you for the take-a-look, heck, here in NYC with all the one ways, I want to get another so I can glance either side.

You know you're lucky when you get hit and everyone you tell about it says you're lucky to be alive. I was told that by my sports medicine doctor yesterday. It feels weird when people look at you like Wolverine, or something. "You got HIT BY A TRUCK and only got bruises? You're lucky.". But that doesn't make being off the bike any more pleasant.
