Seat condom

Need something to sheathe my Brooks when it gets wet and I heard Brooks' proprietary cover works about as well as goatskin.

Any suggestions?

Plastic shopping bag. Free and it tucks under the seat when you don't need it.

I use an xmart bag. I keep a couple of them in the trunk to handle wet/muddy/sticky things both inside and outside the trunk. A wet seat is one of those things it covers. Wet shoes, wet socks, fried chicken going in the trunk. Whatever.

+ Some more.
I carry 1-2 in my back pocket.
If one gets rained on, I toss it in the trash and have a dry spare.
I prefer Safeway

Aardvark make one (https://www.cambriabike.com/shopexd.asp?id=39988)
I've had it for approx 25k miles now. One of the seams opened up early on so I got it sewed back up. No problems since so I would recommend it. I used on a B17 and a Professional, for size reference. By the time you attach an underseat toolbag there is no direct path in for rain or wheel spray. Both the seats still look like new, thanks in large part to the cover.
It looks pretty similar in material to the velox one mentioned above so either of these would do pretty well I'd think.

Yes, but it doesn't fit the B-67s. I got the Brooks cover that is also on that page and doused it in that waterproofing stuff from REI. It worked nicely.

My bag isn't to keep the saddle from getting wet as much as putting it over a wet seat so my butt doesn't get wet if the bike sits out during an unexpected rainstorm. The saddle can get soaking wet for all I care, Its just that I don't like the cold, wet, squishy feeling in my crotch when I sit down on a wet saddle. Alternatively, I could put the bag over the saddle before it rains, then remove it afterwards to ride home on a dry saddle.

I agree with those who say use a shopping bag and a rubber band. I got a cover that fit nicely, but it fell off. That was a waster. Shopping bags work just fine, and it's no big deal if they rip or get lost.

On the other hand, back when my commuter bike was used only for commutes and errands in the 5-6 km range, I preferred a plastic saddle. Added bonus: I had two spares at home. Well, I went through both of them in two years and through a third one (that I bought) in about 1.5 years.

During that time, the touring bike that I bought in 2000 still has the Brooks saddle that I bought back in 1978. It has been used for roughly 80 000 km, doesn't look as good as the new one I have on the tandem, but is quite comfortable. Fenders and my rear end protect them when I ride on the bike; otherwise, a standard plastic bag does the job.

I don't need a rubber band, just wrap the bag handles around the seat post once and tie.

Yeah, I put the Brooks one on my B33, works fine for me too.

Mine have held up in the rain fine. I pull my saddle cover off rain or shine before I ride. The Brooks saddle has dimples on it, and being leather it can soak up water in a driving rain, it's just nice to not have to start off on a soaking wet saddle.

Hell, I put a shopping bad on my Brooks just to make it look less attractive to potential saddle thiefs.

And if I lived in Brooklyn, I'd likely do the same. For that matter, I'd probably remove the seatpost altogether when parking my bike.

Good to know! Spouses' saddle old saddle soaked up water like a giant sponge and squished. Thought Brooks might have the same problem. A good rain pant will prevent the water from easing it's way in.

Exactly!

Effective, cheap, easily replaceable and useable as more than just a seat cover. Why NOT use a plastic bag?

I have a comletely separate bike to ride around areas where I think the bike'll be in danger (namely campus). My first day on campus, I saw about seven or eight bikes that had been completely trashed while locked up on the racks. Whole rear ends sticking out at odd angles, seat gone, handlebars twisted, the works. That was enough for me.

Also, I have a roll of 1.5 gallon trash bags for the seat. They are pretty static-y when compared to the shopping bags, so they crinkle and move less as well as make less noise if you're forced to use them while riding.

I also rarely lock my bike up outside. It sleeps in my apartment with me and it lives its days in my office. The saddle is locked down w/ the old chain in an old tube "lock" and covered w/ plastic and the bike has a NY Krypto U-Lock and NY Chain anytime the bike is locked up outside.
