When Gel saddle cut away breaks down ??
Last Aug, the bike fitter tipped the seat up and said the gel is broken down. That was 3K miles ago. Now that I'm running a higher cadance in a higher gear ratio, I'm noticing my knees are starting to complain in the ITB (outside of knee) AFTER I get off the bike. It's the same ache experienced before the bike fit.
The saddle is 2.5yrs old w/ about 8,500 miles on it. How do you know when a gel seat is -done- ?

Replace with a real saddle. Try a brooks.
For real, and I'm a ****** clyde, don't do the gel thing. I found that it tugs and pulls on my skin. After a week in a proper saddle, I was just fine. My body just needed to form some muscle and/or tissue over the bones that were rubbing.
Then, get the bike fit again. If you think it's just saddle height, I usually make it high enough that my leg is ALMOST but not totally extended at the furthest crank position, without any hip sway. It's seemed to work well on the platforms on my MTB as well as clipless on my road and hybrid bikes.

Specialized Toupe! My bum doesn't like brooks. The toupe is the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden on.
However, saddle choice is very personal. You may need to try a few to find the one your rear loves.
