GREAT article!!!!!!

My favorite passage:

"Drivers of trucks, commercial vans, SUVs -- even compact cars toting four to five hormonally driven youths -- have all at one time or another hollered at me, uttered oaths that couldn't be repeated in a family newspaper, and questioned my sexual preferences with the enthusiasm of a lynch mob."

well the article is hilarious!!

and maybe the sign does work to get a little more friendly treatment from the typical worst offenders by giving them something to identify with...

BUT, i personally think the sign re-inforces the idea that people bicycle only when they aren't able to drive - in this case b/c his ex wife got the car so he has to RESORT to riding the bicycle...

but it is probably irrelavatn as these pickup-driver types he refers to would probably be very unlikely to convert ot bicycling...

Or, to speak more cynically, I'd say that the sign works by distracting some of the worst offenders from their homophobia long enough to get them in touch with their misogyny!
