SWOBO Otis
Anyone out there with a SWOBO Otis. What do you think of it. Any flats on rear tire? Like 3 in 3 rides.

I just found this bike. Looks pretty cool and seems like it would make a great commuter. 3 speed internal hub, front disc brake, rear coaster brake... sounds like you just need to throw some schwabbe marathons on the rims. How are you liking it? Anyone else have one?

Is there a pattern? Are the flats front or rear? Tire side of the tube or rim side of the tube?

The conti is a 1.75" where the kenda was 1.5. Nicer to have wider rubber in the back. Great Bike! Thanks |
Glad to hear that all is well! Commuting can require some serious tires, especially on the rear. I opted for a Marathon 2.0x26 on the rear of my commuter and still had to install a Mr Tuffy liner to get flats under control. I am considering putting the other half of my pair of Tuffies in the rear as well.

Just got my Otis. Have about 70miles on it now. d2create called it right on the tire upgrade. I just put Schwalbe Marathons 26x1.50 (100psi) on it and I like them a lot. Still trying to get the gear shift cable adjusted right, probably screwed it up myself when I first put it together. It works ok but just not right yet. Nice bike, gives a little more options than my Langster. Not as fast as a road bike but no need to be in a big hurry to get to work anyhow.
As far as Swobo, Great company, they have been very eager to resolve any problems. I needed a longer seat stem and they are sending it out free of charge. There was a mix up with the shipping house so I had to call the main office and the lady that answered knew all about the stem just from me telling her my name. Don't see that much anymore. I will try to post a couple of pics. |

Doesn't it have a coaster brake in the rear? Weird. Other than that, seems like a neat bike.

I really like mine,I just wish it had a fourth gear. I run it out on the hills around here pretty easily. I could swap the rear cog,but I need the low gearing for polo.
How's yours ride with the high pressure tires? I've been surprised at how nice it feels despite the alloy fork. Been considering different tires,although only one flat so far(some kinda nail that would've gone through any tire). I put a full Freddy ATB fender on the rear,but had to use an SKS Shockboard with homemade extended mudflap for the front. |
dynaryder, i like the high pressure tires a lot more. They give you a little more of a jolt going over bumps but i think they ride a lot smoother on the road and still have enough grip for hard dirt or light gravel.
I just saw that there is now a 9 speed i-motion internal. I would like to know if it is compatable to the otis. Have you had any problems with your gear shifter and cable? I still can't get mine right. If i loosen it up I get all three gears but there is not enough adjustment to keep it dead on the gears and it feels like it's slipping. If I tighen it a have very positive engagement with 2nd and 3rd but it won't go into 1st. Any thoughts? |
Still lovin my Otis. I put a sks clamp on fender on rear and a pair of iron cross pedlas from dk and a carbon fiber h20 cage.
Swobo now makes a rear rack and basket for grocery shopping. |
I just took one of these for a test ride the other day and I loved it. I tried this and a Trek Lime at my LBS. While the lime was a more comfortable ride, I liked the feel of the Otis much better. It's currently at the top of my list of a possible new bike for commuting and fun.

Jigs OK, so kinda cool the auto shift, but things will full apart. The swobo otis is top notch quality way over the lime. |
John625: you know that when you remove the rear wheel or make any adjustments it's supposed to be in first,right?
The manual is located here: http://www.sram.com/en/service/sram/...nuals_2007.php Might help you troubleshoot it. Otherwise I think I'd need to be there to see what it's doing. |
