I can't say I think it's that pretty, but bonus points to cannondale for the fully enclosed chain!

I want that chain case, it's made by a co. named Hebie. I can't find one anywhere, e-mailed the company with no luck. I wonder if I can get one through Cannondale.

I thought so, until I saw the Street models Cannondale Europe sells - then I was depressed and annoyed.

I've basically stopped riding flatbar bikes at this point, but the Street Rohloff they sell [there] still makes me drool.

Yeah, why do the European's get the coolest bikes available? I have seen this for different brands too.

Looks cool. Cannondale ought to capitalize on that model here. Is it new to the states? I don't remember seeing it. I know of Brands. I'm from NY originally.

Cannondale told me that Cannondale USA and Cannondale Europe are run as seperate divisions and it's up to each division to determine their lineup. Obviously the European division sees a need for these bikes.

I can only hope that customers in this country are purchasing bikes like the Cannondale Street, or Specialized Globe so they will continue. My uneducated guess would be that sales are low though, since I can't see many dealers having these sitting around on the floor. Most casual consumers, even if they know these models exist, aren't likely to commit to purchasing a bike they can't test-ride.

On a somewhat related note, I was somewhat surprised to see that REI has completely sold out of the Novara Fusion 2007 bikes (at least on the website). That this happened in early May surprised me even more. I've glad to see such a utilitarian model selling well.

Hold on though, these guys didn't seem to appreciate the Hebie Chainglider. Althought I don't see why Cannondale would include something as stock if it performs like the reviewers on that forum say.

It looks nice though... If you find a way to buy them let me know as I want to look into replacing the chainguard on the bike I'll be buying.

It's on the north american website so I guess it's available this side of the pond. I also think it's the best looking commuter, and functionnal too.

I got that link from the French site; if its the vintage-style model you're referring to, they don't have it on the US site.

I just found a retailer in Toronto that just became the North American distributor for Hebie products.

I understand that the Kettenschutz Total, made by Utopia, is a good chain guard as well. I've seen them mentioned before but have had no luck finding one yet; my German consists of "Gesundheit", and I believe that's Yiddish.

Please tell us more about the differences between the Kettenshutz Total and the Hebie Chainglider.

I don't know much yet, except that Thorn Cycles in the UK seems to prefer the Kettenshutz to the Hebie.

I've ordered an Hebie (never could find a US available source for the Kettenshutz) and will post images and a review when it comes in. Should be in about two weeks.

Now that is an F*ing beautiful bike!

What's pricing like on this bike (or the 24 speed version)?

Anyone know of any French stores that'll ship one of those Vintage 8 Ultra's to the states? That thing looks perfect!

This web site suggests that in Britain the bike costs upwards of $3000. British pricing is often almost twice US pricing, when the same bike is available in both places -- but this bike isn't...

I saw a very similar-looking cannondale at my LBS this morning. pretty cool! but the price was only $899 so maybe it wasn't the same one...
