Many broken tube stems
I have been having an unusually large amount of flat tires recently due to my tube ripping at the base of the stem. I was wondering if anybody has had similiar experiences and had awnsers to the cause/solution of the problem
Thanks.
Thanks.

The only time I've ever really had a problem with this is when I've tried to really pull the stem through the hole in the rim to set the nut. Now... when I change out tubes and tires, I leave the nut just barely threaded when setting the tire on the rim and pumping it up. Once pumped, it's usually sticking out to a normal level and then I thread the nut all the way down, being careful to not really pull on it.
This advice is, of course, applicable only for Presta valves with threaded valve stems.

I ripped my presta valve clear off last night when trying to remove the connector on the new pump I just bought. It was useless it would onle disengage when all the air was out of my tire. I tried a few times and figured I just need to pull harder, big mistake. I took it back and bought a new tube and a $35pump, problem stolved, this one releases like a dream. It's a red Schwinn, the craptastic one was a raleigh.
I've never had it break while riding though.. Is it sliding around some how when it's inflated? Mayebn you need some sticky rubber in there to keep it in place?

Inspect the stem hole for burrs and sharp edges.
Also, if you use presta valves, get a pump with a flexible tube.

Thanks.
Step2: Invest in better quality tubes if step 1 doesn't provide any results.
step3: If all else fails, consult your LBS but preferably an aged mechanic who knows all the tricks of the trade.

If your tire is older with a kevlar bead it may be stretched and spinning on rim. This will tear of stems.

I appreciate all the good knowledge that has been put forth here. A couple of things stand out that may be the culprit; 1) having the nut screwed to tight on my presta stem, and 2) possible burrs on the rim. I will give these a try.
thanks agian.
