Commuting Miles Last Month - and your goal for the next
Happy June everyone. I figured this is as good a day as any to start this thread. If nothing else it will help me keep track and stay motivated.
Post your commuting miles for the previous month and your goal for this month:
Last month actuals:
May 2007: 133.00 miles, 7:50 total time, 8 days in the saddle
This month's goal:
June 2007: 230 miles, 10 days
My other goal is to remember to check this on July 1 to see how I did!
(Edited to include days. Goal by end of Summer is 15 days riding per month. Unfortunately I need a car at work many days.)

I put 340 miles toward one commuting contest last month (all non-car 'errands', no 'recreation'), 208 toward another (roundtrips to office only) (500 miles on the bike, pretty much all w/ some kind of 'purpose' or other, but hard to justify extended routes in or home to the contest czars).
I mentioned elsewhere that my achilles tendons are hurting right now so I'm not looking to build on those totals this month, main goal is to just stay on the bike, 65 miles/wk to/from office (plus 3-6 miles/day trailering kid(s)). Kid-trailering will accelerate this month, so other riding will definitely need to decrease until my ankles/heels are back toward normal.

For me I think the achilles is due more to fits and starts in attempting to start running occasionally, I don't think it's from the bike at all (but I did lower my seat a little).

Commuting to/from work only:
May 2007 Actuals: 283 miles, 20 hours
June 2007 Goal: 450 miles hopefully in 28 hours or less.
*Just returned to bike commuting after almost 3 years no idea why it took so long after I moved from connecticut to texas to start back up again. Finally got over the no shower, bad intersections, bad traffic, bad weather.

April 07: 338 miles ~26 hours x 13 days
May 07: 390 miles ~ 30 hours x 15 days (only reason this is under 450 is because I was sick the first week)
June 07: 546 miles ~ 42 hours x 21 days
Im shooting for a 100% bike commute in June

Commuting to work only. Not including trips to stores or weekend rides.
May '07: 445.2 miles, 30.1 hours
June '07: The goal here really is to ride to work everyday. Since there are 21 work days this month the goal will be another 445 miles. Oh and maybe shave a minute or two off my roling time.

15 of 20 possible days, 195 miles.
Pretty much right around my averages for the past year.
Did another 75-80 miles outside of commuting- mainly one big 35 mile day, and a couple 13 mile MTB outings.

350 commute miles in May.
700 mile total which included 2 centuries, errands, training rides, MTB rides/races.
Goal in June is to get out more on the mountain bike and to bike commute > 80% of my workdays.

"Commute" means miles put on my bike while on my way to or from work, including trips to and from the bus stop. It does include errands that don't take me far out of my way if I run them on the way to or from work.
"Errands" is where I used my bike instead of my car for other than to/from work. Groceries, visiting friends, taking supper to my wife where she works, riding to the coffee shop, etc. These are mostly trips that originate at home.
Recreation obviously is all riding that's done simply for the sake of riding.
May Commute miles: 226
May Errand miles: 86
May Recreation miles: 92
Also, I only drove twice this month to get to work. Once was just to drive to the bus stop in torrential downpour. The other time, I totally woke up too late to catch the bus and drove downtown. That compared to the 16 other work days I had in May gives me an 8:1 ratio of bike:car, although I'm at 3.12:1 overall for the year. (75 bike commutes, 24 car commutes total so far).
Goals for June are spotty. I'm moving this month, so life is going to be pretty rough without a lot of free time. I don't plan on using my car to get to work at all this month, but recreational miles and "added" miles to my commute by choosing a longer route, those might be hard to come by this month.
My goal is to have fun and use my car no more than 2-3 times this month for commuting. Should be cake.

Goal
Gotta start somewhere, right?
It turns out that there are only one or two days a week I can commute because of the need to either pick up or drop off my 9-yr-old daughter at her school, 10 miles away in another direction (I sort of make a triangular route--it wouldn't save me anything to drive back home and take the bike from there). But, I would like to take advantage of the opportunity on the days it's available.
My goal is five commute trips this month (about 50 miles), and five errands on my bike instead of by car (errands being trips from my house, not just stopping at the grocery on the way home). It SEEMS perfectly doable.
Here's to accountability!

Somewhere around 350 from commuting last month. I was rather pleased that I managed to ride every day, including the day after the Santa Fe Century. The commute total doesn't include rides I took after work, other than counting the distance it would normally take me to get home (7 miles each way). I don't track my mileage closely enough to know how many total miles I rode last month, but it's likely in the neighborhood of 700.
This month I'm planning on about the same, but it'll probably be a bit lower mileage since there are fewer workdays this month. I expect to ride every day this month, other than today (today's a rest day before a century tomorrow).

I was car-free from 11/1/06 until 4/5/07. My daily commute varied between 38 and 42 miles, depending on route. I did it 4 days a week, sometimes 5. So, at 40 miles per day, 5 days a week, that's 200 miles per week, and 800 miles per month, not counting errands. I've been OFF the bike since 4/5/07, because I got hit by a truck and the bike was wrecked. I'm physically OK but the bike is out of commission and I'm dealing with the driver's insurance. So---it will be another couple of months before I get a replacement Gunnar, but I ordered a Surly Pacer frameset today---and will be on the bike in a couple of weeks. My monthly mileage should be between 640 and 800 miles a month. I miss it a LOT.

i think for may i topped the scales somewhere over 550ish....
i want to run it up to about 700 this month and i'll probably sustain that there...my commute eveyday is about 32 miles and once a week i go for a long day of about 60+, so it adds up fast.

I'd like to clock in on this thread. My goal for May was to just ride the bike in to work four or five times. I ended up riding 11 out of 15 scheduled work days and total miles came to 165. My new goal for June is to ride in every freakin work day. I'm pumped about getting to work awake and getting home with some extra energy to spend with the wife and kids. Love it, love it, love it.....

I biked every single day. 28 miles round trip. One recreational ride of 35 miles.
618 miles for May.
Since summer vacation starts in two weeks, my June total will be much lower. My profile changes to some longer rides (40-60 miles) a few times a week.
I also registered for an open water swim in September, so it would do me good to spend less time on the bike and more time in the pool.

Man I'm so wimpy compared to y'all. May 6 - 31 = 100 miles. Half of that is a pretty bad hill. I wish that my commute was flatter sometimes. I recently added wide tires and a rack to my folding bike. Makes the commute much more enjoyable.

Commute for me can either include to/from work directly to my house, or to/from work and then up to visit my daughter and back home - I consider these all commute journeys, and not errands - if it doesn't involve work, it's not a commute)
Thanks for the Routeslip log
Commuting miles in April: 98.36mi.
Commuting miles in May: 195.03mi.
May 7th onwards was all on the roadie, I can't be bothered to count in my non commute miles just now. I know since May 7th when I got the cyclocomputer on the roadie, I've now got 384.43 miles on there, and I've checked against routeslip, and it seems to be reporting pretty accurately. So I guess that's 189 miles of errands/rec. riding. Most riding has been to/from places I have been needing to get to, rather than riding for the sake of it. Miles on the MTB I've not clocked as much up in May, but I'd say probably 50 including the first week of commutes.
I'd like to hit 200 commuter miles in June, I'm under confident due to my current leg state (very very tired) and schedule, but if I don't give myself rest days, I can do it - I'm planning a weekend ride to Niagara Falls for June though, so I may well need the rest days. Meh, I want the goal to aim for
Edit: Wow some of you guys really put the miles in, nice going everyone - cycling++

My Commute: ~22 miles R/T - my house is near LGA, my office is across the street from WTC.
Other than the five days that I was in Lake George hiking with a group of Fourth Graders and the two days I was sick with bronchitis, invoked the Neck Rule and took the subway, I managed to commute everyday. Since the mileage doesn't change, my goal is measured in the number of days I don't take the subway. Using that metric, my total for May was 2, June's goal is 0.
Mileage for May was ~440 miles.

I don't track my miles anymore. No particular reason. Just uninterested in them.
I average 180-250 miles a week depending upon the weekends.
No mileage goal for next month.
I am focused on sitting in my drops more at the moment. Nothing much else. Loving this weather.

+1 I don't really set goals for distance. Just number of days...oddly when the gas prices spike I add more miles ...I DO focus on improving speed and preventing overuse injuries. Sore knees or whatever rally tank my overall endurance and speed.
All centers around the weather. Hail or radar red-yellow cancels the ride.

Commuting so far for this year:
Jan - 442
Feb - 257
Mar - 445
Apr - 187 (very few days in the office that month)
May - 444
I set no goals for commuting. Mileage is simply 23.35 * <# of days in the office>. I guess I would not ride if it was hailing in the morning, but I've never seen that happening. If I ride in, then I've pretty much got to ride home, so nothing stops that.
