Dropping off the car & bike commuting

Well, this was a first for me. How to solve the age old riddle of dropping off the car at the repair shop and getting a ride to work after doing so. Neatly solved by putting the bike on the rack and commuting from the repair shop! No more tag team driving with the wife in her car or asking for lifts from co-workers and I don't frequent places that offer loaners - must not be up market enough in my car choice I guess.

P.S. I'm driving to Maine next week for vacation (taking two bikes FYI), this is the only reason I'm involved with a car right now I swear!

I did that a couple times back in Cinci when my crappy beat-down Jetta was on its last legs. Drop the car off at the shop in the AM, ride the 8 remaining miles to work, ride back to the shop in the PM and pick up the car.

Do it all the time. Once or twice a year I drop my wife's car off for her and ride from there.

I do it all the time, too. It amazes me that car owners can get along without bikes.

+1
done it a few times. The shop workers are usually quite surprised.
"you need a ride?"
"Nope, got one!"
cheers

Yep. Me too. "Will you be using our complimentary shuttle to downtown?"

No, thanks. I'm good!

That is the only time I get to drive our "family" car.

Seeing as I live almost 50 miles from work...

Any bike commuting I will do consists of parking the car, getting the bike off the rack, and riding the rest of the way to work, unless I want to do a century commute.

I've been doing that for over a year now. No more hassle with waiting around for an oil change, no hassle with waiting for the shuttle, no bugging my wife to pick me up. I just drop it off in the AM, then ride in to work and it's ready for me when I ride my bike back there in the evening.

I do the same thing if my car needs work. The shop is only a couple of miles from my work so it's really easy for me.

Oh, and if the car needs work, chances are, it's in my driveway, and I've already called off work to work on it. ;)

I did that once and got stuck in a rainstorm for 10 miles !!!! AAAH !!!!
