Bars on a Cross Check

I am now commuting on a Cross Check I built up (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=311441)
but I am having a problem with hand pain on the drop bars I installed. I have tried making different adjustments but I cannot get comfortable.

I come from primarily a mountain bike background so I was considering a handlebar that is similar in design to a MTB bar. My question is how will such a bar integrate with the geometry of the Cross Check? Is it a big deal or is it just different? At this time I have my saddle (Brooks Standard) at aproximately the same level as my drop bar.

Also, I have heard great things about the On-One Mary bar. Opinions?

Thanks

Kevin

I brought a used cyclocross bike. It came with a flat bar. It works fine for me. The bar is lower than the seat. In fact, I was thinking of pulling a spacer and dropping it more.

I hate flat bars but I have seen a number of Cross Checks with them.
I have used moustache bars and Dirt Drop (WTB Mountain Drop bars) on my commuter. Both work very well and I find comfortable. You may need to just try your handlebars a little higher. The dirt drops are nice because they are wider and don't drop as much as a regular drop bar. Same with moustache bars only more so.

Plenty of CC's out there sporting flat bars. It's not the bar, it's the setup.

What kind of hand pain are we experiencing?

I've been very happy with my On One Midge drops and a Salsa 135° stem

Hand Pain

In the palm and wrist.

I made adjustements to my saddle, (tilt, height and lateral), changed the angle of the bar, (tipped it toward the saddle a bit), and I constantly change hand positions, mostly because I need to.

Try a shorter stem, or a stem with a steeper angle. If possible, you could try raising the bars up a bit. Or lowering your seat slightly.

Get yourself into a more upright position and take the excess pressure off your hands, and the pain should go away.

Too much weight on your hands. Sit further back if possible. IMO more upright position is not the way to go, since your bar and seat are at the same level.

Mustache bars even with the seat for me. Thanks.

DiaCompe 287V, they work specifically with V-brake setups
