Thanks to other BF members for "shedding the light", this is a sweet little light!:beer:

It's strapped on my bar with a twofish lockblock, right next to the wireless computer, no issues.

On "turbo" it looks about the same brightness, side-by-side, as my 12 watt halogen (10 watt nitehawk overvolted to 7.2V).

This will tide me over till the next-gen cree bike-specific lights are common.

Wow, tonight was the first night time ride.

I put it right next to my Dinotte 5w. It is quite a bit brighter than the Dinotte 5W on a dark trail. When I compared them in my living room they looked about equal.

I'm going to make sure I have two sets of fully charged batteries in each and take some pics to compare.

If the numbers on flashlightreviews.com are correct, it will run longer than the Dinotte on half the batteries (and < 1/3 the price)

As my luck goes, they are taking pre-orders on the fenix site now for the next gen which is supposed to be even brighter.

When is the next-gen light supposed to come out?

Are the batteries expensive in stores? I know the site says "inexpensive" but there defintion and mine may be different.

The light linked by the OP uses regular AA batteries. Lithium and rechargables will be more expensive than alkaline, but AA is about as cheap and widely available as you get.

the fenix site says they are taking pre-orders on the new 175 Lumen light til 8/13/07. That was yesterday. I'm guessing that they are shipping now.

Yea, the light I was comparing to my DiNotte 5W uses two AA batteries. I have NiMh 2300ma rechargeables in both the Dinotte and the Fenix L2D CE.

What is a "twofish lockblock"?

The lockblocks let you attach a tubular object (eg a torch or bike pump) to another tubular object (eg handlebars or frame of a bike). Different models are good for attaching at right angles or in parallel. You can get them from the www.fenix-store.com site.

I also have the L2D CE (AA version), the 135 lumen one rather than the brighter one they are advertising now. It is brighter than a Cateye 530, looks slightly dimmer than 10W halogen but not by much. Very much more convenient than either of the others, except that battery life is about 2.5hrs with 2500NiMH (compared to maybe 10 hours for the 530). Works reasonably well taped to my helmet as a headlight; the weight is manageable, I currently leave it on for all my riding though I'd take it off for a really long on-road ride.

I'm considering this puppy. 200lm. P3D which uses 2 x CR123 which you can buy a couple at purchase of the disposible type or get the rechargeable RCR123 with charger and get 4 cells and swap around.

4.8hrs on high or 1.8hr on turbo. And small enough to go on the helmet with not much weight feel.

You can also buy cells from http://www.dealextreme.com and everything on the site comes with free S/H. Many Candlepowerforum members have commented many good deals, transactions, and products from the site. Free S/H (worked into the price anyways) is good stuff.

Those CR123's if memory is correct have a 10yr shelf life so keeping 2 disposibles in the bag/pocket and you're good to go when things go sideways.

Sorry, I missed the big news. What is the deal with these lights? Are they like a super-sonic LED light or something? I noticed the price tag of about $60.00. That is kinda big money for an LED light these days. Is there something special?

Nice, I just ordered one of the new 175 lm lights. However, the site still says it's on preorder, even though 8/13 passed two days ago. Anyone know what the story behind that is?

I just pre ordered one of the 175lm ones as well. I shot an email to ask when they'd ship and got a reply within minutes. They expect the lights to be in at the end of the week, and they'll ship out immediately. So hopefully I'll have my light by next week some time.
