Planet Bike Superflash. I run one on each seatstay and they've held well despite some crap roads. Easily augmented with a zip tie.

Blackburn Mars 3.0. Not as dynamic, but still a damn good light.

Blackburn something or other (it is about 3" in diameter, only it is triangle shaped). I got 3 of them, two mounted on bikes and one I can clip to a backpack.

2+ on the Planet Bike Superflash (because I have 2 and will probably buy more). I have them horizontally mounted on the back of the racks on my bikes. The newer ones come with a "spacer" that will let you attach it to small tubing, like that of racks. For the older one, I just used an old tube wrapped around the rack tube to take up the space.

Yes, another vote for the Superflash. It's crazy bright for the size. I do use other lights on other bikes, though -- the good old-fashioned Vistalite that's about nine feet wide still works very well.

New one? What's the difference?

To the OP:

The Superflash or if you will be using the light in the day time as well the Cateye TL-1100.

My minimum for riding home from work at night is 3 superflashes (one on solid mounted on the rack tab using the bracket available on their website for $5 shipped, 2 more in flash mode mounted on rack tubing with small bracket).

This video shows the 3 superflashes, plus my new Dinotte mounted on the left side of the rack on one of the vertical tubes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8Psfth23Uk

I just found the Dinotte on my doorstep when I got home from work at 11:00pm tonight...I am happy nobody stole it. It felt like Christmas opening it and grabbing some batteries to throw in . Obviously it's out of the given price range. I guess it's a bit out of my price range too, but $130 is alot cheaper than even a minor hospital visit would cost me.

Having said all that, if I only had $25 to spend on rear lights, I'd get a superflash, then start saving up for more lights

Yeah, definitely the Superflash. Second the rack mount too. PB is a good company, and it's cool that they spent the R&D money to develop a mount that they only sell for 5 bucks, and part of that money goes to bike advocacy. But---if you have the money to spend and a good place to mount it, the DiNotte is king.

I used to run one of those, they're decent. Just don't run it in 'cylon' mode. A couple friends do this, and at more than a block's distance, the light is so small it just looks like a single glowing spot.

Superflash for me. A riding buddy says I look like a city works vehicle from a distance.
