kona haole vs kona zing

I am looking to build a commuter and i cant decide between the ***** and the zing. The zing has has carbon front fork and rear triangle but is that what i really want for commuting . the ***** is all aluminum but is that what i really want for a commuter ???Anybody have any advice or experience with either bike .

So what are you really looking for in your commuter?

Might want to start off with what you want on your commuter... like racks, fenders, slim or fat tires...

If you want to go with a commuter from Kona, I would go with either the Jake line (Jake or Jake the Snake), the Dew line or the Sutra. I just went through this process and I ended up with the Dr Dew and the deciding factor for me was the disk brakes, which in Vancouver is a necessity in the winter.

I would have taken the Jake the Snake in a heartbeat if I could have put disks on it.

The Zing is not a commuting bike. I'm pretty sure fenders won't fit on it and you will have to 'jerry-rig' a rack for it as well.

If you are looking for a 'do-it-all' bike, then I recommend the Soma Smoothie ES - it can take racks and fenders and is built with a more aggressive road geometry.

Hope that helps

Did you swap out the bars on your Dr. Dew?

Sheik: I haven't swapped out the bars, but I put bar ends on it. That gives me enough variety and I like the bar ends for when I'm out of my seat.

Jarery: well I stand corrected. I didn't think the forks allowed for disks. Very nice.
