I filled up my gas tank last night ... for the 4th time this year! :(

Just sayin'....

I often wonder if it is worth keeping the car insured but on the rare occasion that I do use it, it does come in handy.

I have put on almost 1800km on my car this year.

Do you use your car very much?

bdinger 08-31-07 08:47 AM

I have less than 3,000 miles on mine this year. I know this because the "3 month" oil change timeline has passed, yet I still haven't exceeded the mark on the little sticker on the windshield from the last oil change done according to mileage.

But I did drive in to work today, stayed up far too late last night and slept in too late this morning :(

Anyway, no, not very much at all. I've probably filled up more than that, but it's because I drive a pickup that gets ridiculously bad gas mileage.

Psydotek 08-31-07 09:03 AM

My rate of oil changes went from every 2 months to every 3 1/2 months since i started bike commuting 1-3 times a week. :) I do an oil change every 5k miles with my car...

So yes, i still drive alot.

Mileage is way down on the car I primarily drive - it's been relegated mainly to kid hauling, grocery trips, and my once weekly work resupply (and for when I'm injured and can't ride).

Don't drive other than that. Hell, don't go anywhere other than that, kids kind of nuke the old social life.

Tequila Joe 08-31-07 09:22 AM

Oh, I have to calrify, when we need to go anywhere with our kids, we take my wifes car. I've done 1 oil change on it this year so we've put on over 5000km on that car.

I agree with Mr. U Kids = No Social life. The dudes at the local video store know us by name. :(

Haven't touched the car in over a month - feels great!

rajman 08-31-07 09:36 AM

I've been free for over a week now, but I feel weak.

Thanks for the CA meeting :)

Between the 4 people who use the car we have available, and about 40 000 km of road trips (chicago, calgary, gaspe, Newfoundland, etc) the car has clocked 100 000 km in 9 years. about 6000 km/year for round the city travel, and 6000 km/y for road trips.

We do change the oil every 3 months though - when we drive it, it's often 1.5 km each way to the grocery store, so the engine doesn't really warm up - my understanding that guck builds up in the engine when you do this, but I'm not willing to spend 20 min on a 5 minute trip.

I kid with my friends that I buy gas seasonally.

wolfbrother 08-31-07 09:45 AM

Aside from a few trips (minnesota, alpine valley, visiting the folks) I've put hardly any gas in this summer. I haven't driven to work in over 6 weeks and I rarely drive in the city. After reading a suggestion in Bobke II, I think I'm going to write my car's mileage down at the beginning of next year and see if I can bike more than I drive in 2008, at least to and from work.

Speaking of which. This is a good example of the things in life we don't have to worry about, not that I would if I was a full time driver either.
