Breezer Greenway
I am going to start commuting to work, about 4 miles now, but it will increase to 10 miles each way once I get out the military. I have test ridden the Breezer Greenway at my LBS and it seemed to be a very nice bike. I would like to get a few other opinions before I purchase it. I am by no means a bike expert so any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Breezer is a fine bike.
I did not look at the differences in price but another of their models you may want to consider is the Uptown. It has an internally geared hub, really nice for commuting for a plethora of reasons, a dynamo hub to power lights, and a full chaincase to keep your chain and pants clean. |
Ah, you've tried out one of the Breezer "range" bikes. I hear they're really great for those who like that. I have an internal geared Uptown myself, but the LBS who sold me my bike has sold range bikes and they have a devoted following. They are akin to what is sometimes referred to as a "European trekking bike". They're designed for longer distances and steeper hills, but at the same time, they have many of the same comforts of a city bike. What I can tell you is that Breezer makes an excellent quality city bike, and I cannot imagine the Greenway being any different in quality.

The gear ranges on modern internal hubs are surprisingly large, around 300%+. Indiana, it'll provide you with plenty of range, you won't feel lacking at all.

I've seen one--really liked the handlebars. They looked great.
I like my Breezer Villager, but if I was going an extra 3 miles one way, I'd look at the "range" bikes. |
