Austin bikers: bike to Lake Travis?

Is it possible to (safely) bike from downtown Austin out to a swimming spot at Lake Travis -- whatever the closest one is? (Hippie Hollow or Windy Point, I think)

Not sure how familiar you are with the area. I wouldn't feel unsafe biking on most 2222, but
once you get to the BIG hill you can count me out. The hill itself and the road traffic afterward
would not be fun to me. 2244 is about the same, just lots of smaller hills and limited visibility to other traffic. How far are you willing to ride 1 way?

this page has some alternate routes...hope it ok to link to...not specific for your route, but it has some tips to avoid the bigger hills on the way http://www.austinbikeroutes.com/modu...windex&catid=6

Thanks for the response -- I recently visited the area, and road a (rented) bike wherever I could, but drove out to Lake Travis (on 2222).
Considering a move to the area, and would enjoy being able to bike to/from the lake -- but there's plenty of other cool swimming areas in town, so it's not absolutely necessary if very difficult/dangerous.

Thanks for the link, also -- seems cool!

Yeah, stick to the swimming holes around town while on the bike. Barton springs is nice, but pretty chilly and usually packed. All kinds of them though. Been here all my life, let me know if you need any advice.
