fender too skinny???

I just bought some 2" big apples for my cross check

I also ordered some fancy "Cody's wood fenders" from his Ebay store. They were advertised at 2" and I was a bit worried that they would bee too narrow. I got them super-fast, and they are beautiful, but they only measure 1-13/16. Is a 1-13/16 fender going to protect me from road spray from my 2" fat tires? I could always return these fenders (or use them on another bike) and have Cody build some wider ones for me.

Anyone actually have experience trying to use a fender that is more narrow than the tire?

You want a fender a bit wider than the tire. Even a 2" tire and a 2" fender is too small.

One thing to keep in mind about wood fenders is that they are flat. Plastic or metal fenders curve around the sides of the tire. Wood fenders need to be wider than the others because of this to cover better. I agree that woodsfenders are the best out there! I own a pair. Give him a shout and let him know your problem. I'm sure he's willing to help out as long as you haven't used the fenders yet.

Fender Size

I have 45mm Planet Bike Poly Fenders on my Specialized Globe Hybrid with 700C 38mm tires and they seem just fits by a mm or 2. With work and care I can get them not to rub, but the tight is just a bit snugg. Does anyone know if 60mm versions of these fenders will fit and will be more appropriate for this setup. Thanks, larry

I'm going to get custom fenders made.

What width of wood fenders should I get for 2" tires? 2.25"?
