Daily Commute 09-20-07 04:02 AM

Power Breakfast

Yesterday, I changed my breakfast. I had a smoothie with soy milk (yogurt would probably work the same), protein powder (15g protein, total), apple juice, a banana, and frozen berries plus two pieces of toast. Maybe there's another reason, but I had a ton more energy on my ride into work.

What did you eat for breakfast before?

I've only got a 7.5 mile ride to work, so I have a glass of water and a multivitamin before I hit the road. I eat some oatmeal and a banana after I get myself cleaned up.

I half moved last night so I'm living out of boxes, suitcase - can't find this or that - still have another load to get tonite. Food is still over to my old place.

So I'm REALLY living out of my commuting backpack (where I know where my essentials are!).

So breakfast in the new place (my friend's) who are still in bed when I leave - today was.

Before ride: Water

After ride:
Big swig on waterbottle
1 pkg of Bumble Bee Tuna Salad (prepackaged with crackers) from Dollar store someone gave me
$.25 small bag of crunchy party mix/pretzal kinda thing

:(

Thing is I'm not at all hungry now - and I have some better, more nutritious oatmeal here too.

Think I should pop a couple of vitamin pills to compensate for the poor breakfast :)

first thing after I wake up, get a pot of green tea going, and then some cut up fruit
(fresh pineapple is my weakness, plus banana, apple, mango, whatever happens to be in the larder) to get the system "cleared out."
Then some grains.
Ideal is steel cut oats cooked with a dollop of peanut butter at the bottom of the bowl, raisins, brown sugar/molasses and milk. Yum! That is the touring breakfast of champs. I've met more bike tourists that eat that combo everyday. sticks to the ribs.
plus some water

Yes! A good breakfast is a must. Fruit, yogurt w/blueberries, 7 grain cooked cereal with honey and soy milk, coffee with sugar & half-n-half.

LittleBigMan 09-20-07 06:53 PM

I had my usual strong coffee, cocoa, and sugar.

Bad me. ;)

I usually have hot tea and either cheese/ham/bologna/salami sandwich or whole milk yogurt. I like it for speed of preparation. It takes me about 9 minutes to finish with the breakfast

Hate to break it to you, but any breakfast that doesn't have a burrito is not a "power breakfast". :p

I'm with you. Coffee, capuccino, cream and teaspoon of sugar every morning before my commute.

The breakfast of champions.

Power breakfast right to the restroom.
Don't ride behind me! :p

My son and I have been making smoothies like crazy. Good stuff.

I've been meaning to create a recreational ride route that ends at a smoothie bar.
Anyhow, I would love to try one for breakfast but I never have leftovers to save. Turning the blender on at 4am will result in one angry wife.

I do the g'nola, yogurt and honey every day. Gave up coffee so it's two cups of the best green tea from the best oriental market around. I do a multivitamin, put some fiber in my tea and try and scrounge fruit.

I used to do the Carnation Instant Breakfast, but it's really not that good and it's not filling at all.

I have a weakness for bagels w/cream cheese, though...so I "try" to "avoid" that.
