I got hit by a JCB today!
For those non Brits, a JCB is a hydraulic digger, with a bucket on the front and scoop on the back
JCB I was in front of it in traffic, and had just stopped at the traffic lights going on to Princes Street. I just felt a nudge from behind (like the thing you get if another bike hits your back wheel) turned round to see that the JCB was rocking on it's springs from stopping and the bucket had hit my rear light! I just looked up at the driver and he mouthed "Sorry" and shrugged his shoulders! I was so shocked I couldn't even swear. (For me that means I'm really surprised :)) When I got to the office I checked for damage(I had memorised the name of the company), but found only a scuff mark on the top of my rear light. The sks guard it's mounted on wasn't even kinked. I'm just glad he didn't let it slip forward a foot or so! |
Ouch!!
If his foot hit the brakes just a few seconds later you may not have been here to write about the incident. Glad he stopped 'in time' and that you're alright. |
At the moment I'm dodging combine harvesters, but no close calls yet.
Glad you're okay. Richard Did you see the JCB bikes last year? - also best avoided ;) |
In America, a JCB is called a front-end loader with a back hoe. JCB sounds better! Glad you didn't get squished like a bug!

I think he thought I was going to pass the bus, but I knew the bus was going straight on (it was stationary across two lanes) so pulled in behind it. I think he just misjudged things. |

Chewa - glad to hear there was no serious damage or injury. That is a pretty bizarre incident and a "close one".
It reminds me of the time a couple of years ago I was forced to stop behind a driver waiting to turn into a driveway that realised they were one house too far along. Without checking mirrors they reversed straight into me until my front wheel stopped the car (buckling in the process). Luckily there was no injury, and the driver took care of the cost of repairs promptly and without any argument. I guess we just put it down to the silly season, Cheers, Ed |
Chewa, Praise God! That's no tonka toy behind you! I'm glad you are well and no damage was incurred. Some times people do the wierdest things.
