MILWAUKEE — A bicyclist shot a motorist after the man's car nearly hit the bike on Friday night, police said.
The 28-year-old driver of the car stopped to check on the bicyclist, who had fallen to the pavement around 10:45 p.m., police said.


The bicyclist got up, fired three shots and hit the driver once in the shoulder, police said.


The motorist drove to the house of a friend, who then took him to a hospital. He was treated and released.


Police said they were looking for the bicyclist on Saturday. No other details were released.

I'm having a very mixed reaction. Very.

Alibi: I was in Indiana and I don't have a handgun.

I feel like doing that sometimes, key word feel.

Wasnt me, Im in Philly, I do carry, but have never had to draw my weapon as Ive never been in fear of my life or the life of my family.

No support whatsoever for the notion of shooting someone. However, we've had enough threads where cyclists report motorists deliberately crowding them or clipping them or running them off the road or getting out of the car to threaten them, that one wonders if this motorist was as innocent as he claims. Perhaps more detals will emerge.

Good thing personal defence weapons and such are banned in Canada (some people get them regardless). Pretty vague news clip I must say. I wouldn't want to say anything before more details emerge.

Perspective of driver: You stopped, to (presumably) help the guy, and he shoots you.
Perspective of cyclist: He knocked you over, and stopped so he can go for the kill, so you shoot him first.

What is to have a mixed reaction about? Accidents happen and the driver did the right thing by stopping to help the cyclist. Why does the driver deserve to be shot?

And he's a piss poor shot at that. 1/3 and in the shoulder? You should have to pass a course. If the motorist pulled a gun, the cyclist wouldn't be waking up again with quality shooting like that.

Oh well, go Canada :D where handguns are banned and threats to your personal safety are limited to the steel of automobiles.

I want to start by saying, Im not trying to start an arguement :) So how many of the crimes in Canada involve guns? Just curious as you mention that some people still get them, does this include the "bad guys?"

As is well known, there are no "bad guys" in Canada, so it's really not an issue.

Maybe he was busy text messaging or something...

I'd say hardly any of the crimes here involve guns. Some of the bad guys have them for sure, but so do some of the cops. Bad guys typically shoot other bad guys. You could talk about stray bullets... or you could also talk about someone killing someone trying to get away in a car while being chased by police!

Just think if he had actually killed the motorist. That would have really shown people that cyclists deserve respect.

Would have been even more appropriate if we'd found that the bike rider was totally at fault, riding on the wrong side or blowing a light.



I hope they catch this turd and lock him up.

Keeping a gun at home to defend yourself and family is one thing. If you live somewhere that in order to cycle safely you need to carry a gun, why not do something actually good for your family and MOVE !.

Remember that not all people that police consider a "cyclist" in fact ride as we do. The shooter may have a been a drug dealer, thug, etc. that happened to be on a bike. Where I live the only other people who ride regularly are the homeless guys who make their living picking cans and bottles out of dumpsters for the deposit. They never obey traffic laws and rarely look where they are going.

Anyone who uses a firearm that way is too immature to own one. The cyclist who shot the motorist should be prosecuted.

The driver got out to "help" the cyclist? The driver may have been a raging a-hole too... he could have threatened the cyclist? Maybe we just have his side of the story?
