Underwear? Without breaking the bank?
I'm due for some new commuting underwear but I'm having trouble finding anything that fits the bill - particularly for a good price. I've been wearing the DuoFold Technical Briefs which i found on clearance at campmor. They wick away sweat and dry out quickly. They're a poly-cotton blend - cotton just won't do the job.
Here are the links to campmor - very nice if you're a "small" - http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/st...0226&langId=-1 http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/st...0226&langId=-1 What do you wear? Know where to get a deal? |
Underwear and bike seat dont mix well .. :( nuff said.
|
I wear Life styled by Jockey underwear. They're Polyester and spandex, compression, they fit well, wick moisture, and dry fast.
They come in both compression boxers and brief styles... (I have both, haven't decided which I like better) They're comfy for riding in (I did an entire brevet series last summer... the longest one being 400 miles in just under 2 days) I got them at that evil place nobody likes to talk about (Walmart) for something like $7 a pair. |
meh... no jocks.
you'd feel all good and breezy.. |
Compression shorts. I like Nike Pro ones, but they might break the bank at $25 per pair. Maybe Walmart sells a cheaper pair.
|
Bike shorts FTW!
Barring that, EMS has a decent poly-cotton blend boxer brief I've used for hiking in all sorts of conditions. Not cheap, but cheaper than the merino wool boxer briefs I also have for hiking (soooo comfy but cost nearly as much as bike shorts!). |
Hanes sells wicking poly briefs or boxers that don't break the bank.
|
Target sells the champion brand that works well. 99% of the time I wear cycling shorts commando but from time to time I ride in jeans or regular shorts. No way am I going commando in baggy shorts.
|
Just me and my bike shorts :D

Why would you wear underwear under cycling shorts?
|
As long as you're wearing underwear for the ride to work — which you presumably don't want to wear all day after the commute — why not wear dedicated bicycling underwear? I have used these REI briefs with a built-in chamois faithfully for a year.
http://media.rei.com/media/801411.jpg They cost $25 — not cheap. But they are very well made and quite sturdy. Two pairs and scrupulous washing will get you through a week. I also picked up a pair of Performance house brand padded boxers. I don't recommend them; very cheap quality in comparison. They sell these "Andiamo!" padded briefs. Looks to be the same product. |

i bought several pairs of zyflex compression shorts a couple of weeks ago to wear under nylon cargo shorts. they're comfortable and dry quickly. the price is right at $14.99 a pair plus you can get 30% off with "ZyflexSaver" as a coupon code. i looked for compression shorts at rei, campmor, and sierra trading post but had no luck finding my size.

I've been using the Terramar boxer briefs from Sierra Trading Post. If you look around, you can always find coupons for free shipping, 10-30% off, etc.
They've held up great for me. I wear them under some baggy cycling shorts, also from STP. Yes, I know i should go commando, but for some reason the thought of taking off the shorts while commando, then putting them back on for the ride home just doesn't sit right with me. However, leaving the same pair of skivvies on all day does--go figure. I like the wicking boxer briefs so well, I prefer them for everything now. So damn comfy when it's hot and humid out. |

Exactly! I first bought them for a long hiking trip but found i prefer them for every day too. Tarramar is an excellent recommendation. I already ordered from hanes.com but if i don't like those, i'll buy some of the terramar. |

I've been using the Andiamo's from Performance, their underwear/bike short. It chafes, it's not tight enough to stay put once you start riding. Don't get 'em. I'm going back to plain ole cotton boxers.
