Pannier Question (ebay item)

What do you think of these German Army surplus panniers I found on ebay? Price is good. They are large. Will my heels hit them? I am riding a Jamis Coda Comp.

I was looking at them about 2 months ago. I ended up buying a used set of REI panniers, because I had the same thoughts about my heels.

Yes, even if the auction hadn't ended, your heels would have hit it. Take a look at the last picture; even the pedal hits it. There's absolutely no room for a foot.

Generally, your panniers can extend in front of the rear skewer only a few cm before heel strike becomes a problem.

Might be ok for something like the Kona Ute, or as replacement bags for a XtraCycle.
Heel strike looks to be a problem on anything but a long tail.
