I really really like the Metropolis
An Alfine Nexus-8 equipped bike with fenders and disc brakes made in BC, for $1000 retail?
Wow. I bet building that was a bit better for the environment than my surly (built in Taiwan)

The Metro 50 is nice too, but from my searches it's only $100 less than the Metropolis. Do you have a lot of climbs where you'll need all those gears? If not the extra $100 is well spent on the Metropolis. I wouldn't hesitate much if I test rode one of those locally and it fit me well and felt good to ride.

That Metropolis looks yummy. A little steep, but if you wanna spend 1K on a commuter you could do much worse than that.
