ever had a morning like this???

I just got back from a three week stint in Costa Rica—where my wife and I are about to open a hotel on the Southern Pacific Coast ( I got back to the US at midnight on Saturday. I putzed around the house yesterday, getting things back in order, then prepared for the commute in to work this morning. Got up at 5:30, had coffee and packed up. I was out the door by 6:35, in the dark—a surprisingly warm morning for early October. I was surprised at the few bikers I saw-- I counted a total of 15, when my ‘normal’ count is closer to 100. I get to work, and the garage door is pulled down and closed. I go around to the front of the building and talk to the guards. Today we celebrate Columbus Day. It is a federal holiday—just about everything is closed…

So I turned around and rode home. It was a great way to start the morning, as I got in 46 miles on the fixie, but had I remembered that today was a holiday, I would have left the3 lights and the commuter bag at home, and left a little later and headed west for a longer ride (on the fixie, of course).

Oh well-- at least I don’t have to pack for tomorrow’s commute 

Train safe--
