Advice on a bike from craigslist
The specs are below. I'm 5'10, so size wise it sounds good. I had been planning on getting a Bianchi Volpe/Axis, Specialized TriCross Sport, something along those lines, to use as a training bike/commuter. This seems like a decent bike build, and the price is right :).
What do people think about it, and what advice does anyone have on what to check when I go look at it? Miyata Single Speed New Build Gearing - 40 in the front and 18 in the rear. I'm 5'11" and the bike fits me fine. The bike would fit anyone from 5'8" to 6' |
The variance in his estimate of sizes the bike will fit is hard to believe. I would be certain to have the seller carefully give you at least the seat and top tube measurements (and specify manner of measurement; c-c, c-t). There is a BIG difference in traditional diamond frame bikes that fit folks 5'8" and bikes that fit folks 6' tall.

Sounds like a descent bike. The Miyata 310 triple butted frame is a good frame. Flip flop hub? What is the other cog? Well, that doesn't matter much you can always put on what you want. If it wasn't a single speed, I would like that bike. But I don't know what they are asking for it. And like the post above, you should check to see if it fits you. Just because you are the same size, doesn't mean it will fit you if it fit the seller.

$300 is the asking price

Sounds like a pretty ready to roll SS/FG. Never heard of anodized blue 105 brakes sets, but if they are that's pretty cool.
Ride it, see what you think. There really isn't that much money in this bike as far as parts go. $300 might be kind of high, I say $250, if it's in real good shape. |
