If you feel your feet are worth $100 and your head nothing you own the valuation.
I'm gonna go glue some diamonds to a hat for the next time someone uses that line. "So, I guess your head is only worth 150 bucks to you, eh? Mine's worth millions!" Lol.

But then you might be accused of bowing to the safety nazis, I recommend that you take the diamonds and embedd them into your skull. If anyone asks you can say that you crashed into a jewelry store without a helmet.
Just when the thread was getting fun the nazis strike back.
by the way I wear 20 dollar walmart shoes I bought on sale for 10 bucks. I love my platforms and power grips.

Hmmm, now a days I can only check on the forum a couple of times a week but it warms my heart to see the helmet wars are alive and well.

CRTreeDude, living in Costa Rica where he has seen one helmet in 3 years (and people actually believe that bikes are transportation)... You have no idea how surreal this debate looks from my vantage point.

Chipcom - nice to see you picking up the slack from me slacking off.

closetbiker 10-23-07 01:02 PM

I was going to post about the irony of improper risk assement, but posts like the above by bikertrash seem to show the reasonings of the adamant helmet promoters in a way that defeats their purpose more than my post would.

Well done.

PS - for a litlle bit of irony mixed in with a tragedy, there was a story published today where helmet advocates were killed from a collision with an SUV. One of the main tennents of caution about the "life saving" qualities of helmets is that they were never meant to "save lives" in collisions with motor vehicles.

You are wrong, again. There were 4 games of prime importance. You are correct about these nasty Wolverines; say what you will about LLoyd Carr's shaky hold on his job there because of their Buckeye complex, he certainly has had Penn State's number. Penn State won the two others that have been played - Iowa and Notre Dame ( who knew they would be so bad?)

And of course the return of the Supreme Whiteout to white out those silly stickers on the Buckeye helmets (note the mention of helmets to be at least a tad on topic.)

Let's stick to the Real Topic, or at least one not beaten to dearh a zillion times by the BF Safety Nanny Patrol. What place will OSU fall to after they are mauled this Saturday night? There is still hope for them. LSU is still sniffing around the top even with one loss. What say you Comrade Chipcom?

I read on your post: "4. Like is said... I give a ***** what you put on (on in your case in) your head. " Couldn't agree more.

I just laff at the ignorant crap you (like many others ) write to accompany this righteous statement. i.e. all the baloney about protecting your valuable head with a foam dome while cycling. Does your head become less valuable when you take a shower or walk on icy sidewalks or ride in a car? In fact, when is it ever safe enough for you to take off your head protection? Head boards are hard and so is the floor, better not get too active in bed without ALL the head protection you need, eh?

You can be helmetless and fat.

Here I is! :D

I really could give two fu(ks what you put ON your head. I'm serious. I don't care. That's what I said in the first post. I thought it was stupid that some cat talked ***** about the OP not wearing a lid. Why should he care?

So what's the bet this year...the loser has to ride his bike to work wearing the other's team helmet - and post a pic of the event here?

The flaw in this argument is that you are making a mistaken assumption that every activity has the same amount and type of risk involved. (akin to saying the risk factors of driving on the interstate are the same as the risk factors involved in driving in a formula 1 race)

OP: Agree with you, the actions of the other cyclist seemed pretty out of line. But in your post you give the impression that his lack of maintaining a straight line was because he was yelling at you - maybe it was reaction to an oncoming cyclist?

You isn't fat, chipcom. You is busty!

Very few have the choice that you and I do to be helmetless and busty.

maybe he was just becoming aware of me. It is a long-ish bridge (175 feet) across what passes for a river here...And we were at the halfway point. If he had just noticed me that is an even more frightening thought!

And the timing was swerve/berate in that order...

I guess I should have realised that people would get this out of hand, both sides, about this topic...!

In the Motorcyle World, the Loud people are the ones who ride without (Hardley Dangerous riders) and the people made fun of are the people who choose to wear helmets all the time (other than Hardley Dangerous bikes)...

Interesting reversal from my perspective....

and please! May this thread just die? I'm new here...I should have known better than mentioning 'Helmet' in any way/shape/form...

Apparently it is akin to yelling "Fire!!"

bikertrash 10-24-07 01:37 AM

There shall be no end to this thread until everyone is convinced that whiskey and cigarettes are healthy alternatives to work. I would put up my diamond embedded skull to make sure of it. Of course I don't have a diamond embedded skull, but if someone were to send me one, I would surely do that.

Well, I reckon the OP should have been wearing a helmet - but if there are no laws to that effect in your neck of the woods then yes, the other bloke was out of line.

That's funny, over here no-one looks twice at someone riding in proper leathers (protective, not biker) and a helmet; the ones who are perceived as total d!cks are the ones with ape hanger bars, amplifiers instead of mufflers, and those stupid open-face hard hats that look like a WWI German helmet. No helmet on a motorbike = sociopath! :)

That's what you get for not posting it in the Politics & Religion forum!

in the Advocacy and Safety forum there is a thread that started very similarly to this one that started 2 & 1/2 years ago and is still going.

It's a facinating subject how social imposition can be thrust on others own free will, especially when emotion, rather than logic gets thrown in. People dealing with others on a purely "keyboard relationship" affects things too.

Helmets, bike lanes, VC. The arguments will never end. Just take what you can from it to learn more on the topic.
