Made my first 32 mile roundtrip :)
Finally I did it today !!! Around 16 miles one way from Teaneck to Jersey City in NJ. I had posted on this forum a few times before for some guidance, and I got really really great response and LOT of motivation from peoples ! Thanks to everyone for that !
One of the biggest mistakes I made was did heavy leg excercise 2 days ago at gymn, and on every hill that came, I was cursing myself for killing my legs before the trip Gonna take a breather 2morrow, and then Friday again bicycle
Only had one minor incident where I was in the middle of the right lane at a signal, and a f'in a'hole wanted to make a right turn from the left lane. Almost ran into me, but I am trying to develop a habit of turning my head and looking way back over my shoulder for morons like that. Got lucky this time !

Congratulations! Not sure how far you are used to riding, non-commute, but 32 miles RT is a VERY respectable commute. Do that three times a week and you are going to be in great shape in a few months. Also, not sure if you are going to commute all winter, but wait 'till you see what commuting is like in the spring.

Congrats on the commute! Yeah, working your legs hard then trying a long rt commute the next day is tough. You'll find yourself having to work your legs less as you commute more. In a couple of months you'll be looking to go single speed or fixie. Welcome to the dark side.

congradulations! I made my first commute to school today (20 miles RT) it was alot more then the 8 mi. RT I was used to for work. Just remember that it sucks for the first few weeks and after that it is fun. I just cant wait till my panniers get her, I definately dont want to do it with a backpack again!

Way to go dude!!
That's a good distence. You'll be good for a century during the summer if you keep that up once in a while.
Don't overdue it though! Although it great to know what you're capable of isn't it?
Cheers!

But I am thinking of doing this every other day, and might be in rain. I will chicken out if it snows, or gets too cold. Want to take it easy initially ! Hopefully by next summer I will be able to make a century !!

Feels good, eh? Could you post your route? I'm curious how you went. Oh, and this "every other day" business as got to go, and I suspect it will before long as it sounds like you're really into it.

You can easily do this everyday if you incorporate spinning days into your daily commute. It may take you a bit longer to get home but your legs will thank you. Spinning is also a great way to get rid of built up lactic acid compared to just doing nothing.
I have a 28 mile RT that I do everyday now. No way I can do it by going all out everyday and still ride on the weekends. I found that riding easy on the way home Thursdays and both ways Fridays helps a lot in recovery.

I still walk my bike on the last 2 sections of edgewater ave because the slope is way too much and my legs are not able to take it yet :-(

You are an inspiration! My current commute is about 9 miles RT. Next year, I plan on going to Sac State, which will be about 30 miles RT. No way I could do it now, but I'm working toward it. Congrats to you!

You keep this commute up, add a few longer weekend rides, and you will be able to rip off a century no problem.

Fantastic work! Don't forget to include some rest days until you're used to the distance. That's a good solid distance, it can make a huge difference for you.

Holy Smokes! You work in the Tower? I work on 11 in the low rise. I'm the guy with the knickers and the messenger bag who the guards like to stop on a regular basis. I'll pm my number.
LGA to WTC is about ~23 miles RT, the Queensboro Bridge 2Xday is a trial, more about mental fortitude than anything else.
