started commuting today
I thought it was kind of odd hardly anyone was on the streets. When I made it to work I realized it was Veteran's Day. So I guess tomorrow will be the true test. I get to head back out on those empty streets in a couple of hour to go back home.
I started doing a 9-10 mile round trip commute this morning. yippee. |
Welcome!
A local HHCMF greater should be along shortly. Where abouts are you commuting? |
Congrats!!! Hope you enjoyed it.

Congrats and welcome into the addictive world of commuting by bike... Enjoy the forums, enjoy the ride - keep safe!

A local HHCMF greater should be along shortly. Where abouts are you commuting? I'm in Baton Rouge, LA commuting a little over 4 miles each way back n forth to downtown. I work at an office on a barge on the Mississippi River. I found the most challenging part came when I got to work, rolling down the levee through the gravel parking lot. It's pretty flat around here so I don't mind riding singlespeed (even on my offroad bike), and here's my personalized steed... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCN0437.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCN0438.jpg I'm still undecided on fenders but seeing as I missed rain by about five minutes this afternoon on my way home from work I'm thinking they might be a good idea. |
Way to go!! Welcome aboard! I'll let someone else explain the HHCMF, I think I know what the MF part stands for..
|
Congrats. It is addicting, it feels so good to get a rush of exercise in the morning, and in the evening instead of impatiently waiting for the train. I have a 7 mile round trip here in NYC. Started in June, plan to go year round. My bike goes right up to the office so no theft worries for me.

Welcome aboard !! I just started my commute 2 days ago ! Good luck to all of us, and keep it safe !

D'oh! I managed to butcher greeter and possibly the acronym.
Where is jyosarrian when you need him. Though I probably butchered his name as well. Ack! |
second day wasn't bad at all. traffic was easy.
I'm not going to mind this at all, unless it rains :D |
welcome!
i started about 4 months ago and love it. I even gave up my gym subscription after realizing that this is a better workout anyway and as it uses the same time slot it would take me to get home anyway, it's a more efficient use of my time. Someone here has a tag line about waiting in traffic to go to the gym to ride a stationary bike hehe. |
Once you have ridden in the rain a few times, you will get use to it and know what to expect and how to prepare. Eventually it probably won't bother you at all.
BTW, cool bike. I've been wanting something like that to play around on. |

BTW, cool bike. I've been wanting something like that to play around on. Yes, I need to start making rain plans such as fenders and a new, more weather resistant backpack for my laptop. It's gonna suck the first time I get stuck in a downpour unprepared. That bike is a blast to ride, those huge tires roll over everything and I don't have to worry about curbs or potholes at all, unless they're huge. I've been riding all over town with it the past few months. I can hop over most little things on the bike and it always does it well. Just last weekend I added the new bar and stem. It's almost my favorite bike I've owned, almost as my true favorite is my trail pounder... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...p/DSCN0365.jpg |

"Let's have a moment of silence for all those Americans who are currently sitting in traffic on the way to a gym to sit on a stationary bicycle." Welcome to the HHCMF club, Madcap...I've got the exact same water bottle, BTW.:) |
