That's not cold as a mother. That's not even cold as a second cousin. ;)

me too - and it was going the other way!!!!
actually I got a little leeward help on some streets - which felt great. But the crosswinds on the bridge were fierce when I got to to the top and was descending westward - almost knocked me down at one point!! I can't imagine what this did for folks with composite wheels.......

I'm so tired today I took the train, regardless of how nice and sunny it looked outside!!

But you've gotta get in the commutes while it's still nice out! Was still a windy commute this morning, but such a nice day... Today is also a "gridlock alert day", makes it even more fun to ride into midtown and filter on through all the cars and trucks. Well, I suppose "fun" is relative... I'd still much rather ride on a nice road without all the traffic and fumes and not have to worry about doors, yellow sharks, street whales and cyber-linked cagers...

ahhhhh! don't rub it in! I know I shoulda rode today. Some days you just are too beat......I'm dragging all day. mustanottagottalotta sleep last night.

I'm gonna brave the rain tomorrow. Just hope if I get caught in it, it's on the way home, not riding into the office.......

ok, still draggin' today (must be this seasonal no-sunlight do hickey) but I forced myself onto the bike.

I must say I was wishing myself off the whole way thru Queens and the bridge was no picnic either (tho much easier with the less insane winds this AM), but one thing that cheered me up once in Manhattan was a thing that happens from time to time; a woman crossed 57th right in front of me as I waited for a green light. She was holding the hand of a little boy, maybe 2, 2.5 yrs old. Once he caught sight of my bike (rising sun shining thru the clouds onto cruddy road grime offset by numerous colorful stickers) he was transfixed. Total deer in the headlights stare.

She tugged him to the curb and they waited for the same light to cross as I did but once there, he turned around and stared again, and there was a big smile starting to show as the light changed and I rode away....

Ahhhh.....another bike fanatic is born!:D

Heh... no need to rub it in. Your own guilt will get you! :)

Anyway, sounds like you had a worthwhile ride in anyway. When the weather is too foul in the morning or if I'm feeling lousy I'll take the subway to work. Half the time I'll wish I had ridden in though...

In Cleveland this morning, we had 27 mph winds out of the SW. I traveled into it this morning, and had my slowest non-winter (no snow-no studs on tires) commute ever. Wow--it felt like I was going no where.

I'm looking forward to the return trip and simply pointing the handlebars in the right direction and taking my hand off the brake!:D

pgoat 11-29-07 04:26 PM

I hope you have better luck in Cleveland than we did in NY - no such luck on the wind helping out on the ride home:(

Sukram, I often feel regret once I'm crushed in that train car, no matter how foul it is out or how tired/achy/unmotivated I was that morning. A truly GREAT commute is when the subway is creaking and groaning to a standstill alongside the QBB bike path - and i get to pedal past all the poor sardines stuck in their rusting tin can on wheels......(of course that is me on a given day as well!!) That makes all the huffing and puffing and bundling up against the cold and wet and dodging cars and so forth worth it! (making little kids smile is just the icing on the cake!)

the wind here in nyc, in my limited experience, is the devil. a headwind in the morning into manhattan and quite often, a headwind on the way home to brooklyn! what's that about? i think i've had a tailwind both directions exactly once.

pgoat 12-03-07 08:31 AM

yeah, it's weird.....maybe it's a backdraft from too many people commuting all at the same time.....:p
