Physics 101

Easy math:

200lb rider + 28lb bike + 5 mph + unseen hole + fixed object (paved path) = broken shifter & shattered elbow.

I see the orthopedic surgeon today. Ouch.

JanMM 11-26-07 09:10 AM

Can the orthopod fix your shifter, while he's at it on your elbow? Maybe he can just cast the shifter and elbow and let them heal. Good luck.

ontheroadid 11-26-07 09:14 AM

Ouch. Heal quickly.

Cyclaholic 11-26-07 09:17 AM

There are easier ways to convert your bike to ss/fixie :p

Darn gravity.....heal fast

ban guzzi 11-27-07 12:31 AM

heal fast...never got a broken elbow fixed from an MTB accident 10 years ago.. Can't fully bend arm either way but the bonus is I can't roll my hand all the way over to beg for change either...

suck-o on the elbow. Do whatever they say to facilitate your recovery!

Gravity, not just a good idea... It's the law.

Heal fast. I'll ride a couple extra miles home from work for you.

Hopefully it's the same side shifter as your elbow. It would really suck if they were on opposite sides, then you'd lose all shifting capability. Also, don't worry so much about seeing the orthopedic surgeon. They're pretty much harmless. It's the physical therapists you got worry about. That's where the real pain starts. Another heal fast wish for you here.

Pwned by physics! That sucks - heal fast, especially if it's your drinking arm! ;)

Cody Broken 11-27-07 09:45 AM

Rest easy, oh wounded warrior, so that you may rejoin the fray. Now you shall have cool scars to show off.

Flimflam 11-27-07 11:03 AM

Oooof, suckage. Heal fast, and always listen to the physios! Take it easy.

Thanks, all, for your condolences. The doc says the fracture is pretty unusual. It runs along the length of and narrowly across width of the ulna to the socket. The portion adjacent to the socket was projecting about 4-5 mm out from bone Friday, but by yesterday the fracture had both lengthened and drawn in to the bone. So....he thinks that the best thing to do is use the arm to within the limits of pain in the hopes that it heals in place and I get maximum range of motion back. No surgery, no cast, no brace, no sling, nothin. :) But, no bike for a couple of months either. Right now, I cant move my arm past my abdomen. Lets hope I get it all back.

It's not the fall that hurts....it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

"Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, Glory lasts forever."
From "The Replacements", one of my favorite movies (and bands).
Hope the recovery is complete and uncomplicated.

Heal well, and soon.

You know what happens when you run - running leads to swimming and swimming leads to tri-geekery and tri-geekery leads to suffering... All will be lost...

Well, I went for a fast walk this morning in order to keep in shape for hiking, my other love. : )
