Any shifter recommendations?
I already posted this question in Bike Mechanics, but thought it couldn't hurt to try and get a couple more opinions here. I have a drop bar that I want to add to my bike. The only thing missing now is a new pair of thumb shifters. Saw these on Amazon. Anyone got any recommendations? I'm looking for 3x7 shifters and something cheap! Guess it can't hurt to ask. Thanks.

Those won't work on a drop bar (which is a 26.0 diameter) because they are made for mountain bike bars (which are 25.4). Even if you could get them on, thumb shifters don't work well with drop bars. Maybe try some bar-end shifters.

I was considering bar-ends, but thought that they would be a little awkward to use.

Paul Components has a solution, but it still requires some bar-end shifters.

I use 25-year-old Suntour Barcon friction-only shifters, which I got for $10 at a swap meet, and my girlfriend uses Suntour Edge 3x7 indexed shifters which I got for free off some generous soul on craigslist. Both work great. As do all the other bar-ends I've seen

Bar ends are fine, but I've been spoiled by STI. Yes they are great in a paceline, but I think they are also terrific in traffic when you are making lots of speed changes. Main drawback is that they are as expensive as hell.
Bar ends will be your best first, least expensive solution.

Ya I noticed the Paul Components solution, which actually looks like a very elegant one. It's just too much money to get bar-ends and that totaling $120+. I suppose I'll keep looking for bar-end shifters then. Thanks for all the info!
