8 Miles round trip. fairly flat but its on a business section of a freeway. IE no real speed limit but with lights. (there are actually no speed limit signs posted on this street at all.) Also i have to do a freeway exit and off ramp so I have to avoid cars here at night, usually not a problem.

those guys doing 20+ miles one way, how long does it usually take you?

My twice weekly 56 miles RT commute takes me just less than two hours to get to work (~3:50 am to ~5:45) and a bit over two hours to get home.

The fastest was a 1:40 time getting to work, but that is hammering and taking liberties with the traffic lights and stop signs, which normally I am a stickler about.

thisis amazing! 10-01-08 04:22 PM

this thread would work great with a poll attached

8 miles round trip.

GTALuigi 10-01-08 04:42 PM

13km round trip daily.

it's soon going to be 80km round trip.

kev66 10-01-08 05:35 PM

My commute is 1.2 miles RT, takes about 2-3 minutes one way depending on which bike I ride. However, I do ride home for lunch so I guess it is more like 2.4 RT

making 10-01-08 05:42 PM

13.8 each way, today I added 1.2 miles. starting tommorow it will be about 30 miles RT.

desmo13 10-01-08 05:43 PM

30 miles round trip. 3 to 4 days a week. 51 min to 1:10 each way, depending on bike and traffic.

lightningcow 10-01-08 06:58 PM

Little over 12mi daily with a good deal of climbing. I have to pass over the bay and there is a fairly tall bridge with hills on both sides of the water.

pirate 10-01-08 07:05 PM

a little under 30 round trip if I take the bike path most of the way. Its less if I ride on a major road, only 23 round trip, but I'd have to ride on a road with an intersection ranked 10th most dangerous in the US by state farm (Fair Oaks blvd and Watt ave) and a lot of reckless drivers. Not worth it to me.

Barrettscv 10-01-08 07:14 PM

The one way distance from home to work is 30 miles.

I will;

Bike 20 miles & take the bus 10 miles to complete a one way commute from the middle of April to mid September.
Drive 9 miles, bike 11 miles & travel by bus 10 miles from mid September to mid April.

Thats the plan for now.

Cave 10-01-08 07:54 PM

I work at different sites and can't commute every day. I ride the bike if I'm in 1 location all day (and not on call elsewhere) so that's only twice a week at the moment. It's great to be able to ride some days.

1. Ferntree gully: 60km round trip.
Gentle uphill there, nice long downhill back, with a few steep hills each way. About 90 min each way.

2. Dandenong: 44km round trip.
Prevailing tailwind and gentle downhill there, opposite back. 1 hr there, 1 1/4 back.

3. Moorabbin: 24km round trip.
Pretty easy both ways. A bit over half an hour each way.

ken cummings 10-01-08 08:33 PM

25 miles with 16 by bike and 9 by bus

AaronAnderson 10-01-08 09:49 PM

14 to 22 miles round trip. Sometimes I need to make a trip downtown to visit a satellite office. :)

edgpc 10-01-08 09:59 PM

54 miles round trip. But I'm only doing it twice a week right now. A lot of miles are starting to be in the dark these days. :^( (The other days of the week, it's 5 miles round trip to a vanpool stop.)

konakola 10-01-08 10:15 PM

4.87 miles four times a day.

Johan13 10-01-08 11:00 PM

about 20 km round trip

Frunkin 10-02-08 12:37 AM

4 miles round trip.
I do it anywhere between 1 and 4 times a day depending on my class/fun schedule.

jcolletteiii 10-02-08 06:12 AM

44 miles round trip, 3x /week. If someone I know is going home toward my house and has a truck/hatchback, I'll take the offer - usually once a week or so.

That is nothing, just 30 miles per hour. I did about 40mph average today, but, er, I was in my truck.

That's a one way time & a round trip distance, I assume.

YoKev 10-02-08 08:35 AM

Quickbeam 10-02-08 08:44 AM

26 miles round trip.

born_to_ride 10-02-08 08:45 AM

My route is 21 rt, takes me about 45 to 55 minutes each way on a mtb with loaded panniers and stopping at lights...

Mine's shorter. 1.0 mile each way. schwing!!

vinfix 10-02-08 08:52 AM

Does it count as commuting if you do it once a week or less? My trip is 42.6 miles round trip, somewhat hilly. I switch between a fixed gear and old road bike.

rugerben 10-02-08 09:14 AM

2.2 miles RT between house and school. But its 18 mi. RT to my best friend's house, and I run that probably twice a week.
7.4 mi. RT to the supermarket, and I go there ~3x /week.

gholt 10-02-08 09:50 AM

34- 40 RT. 17 one way if I take the shortest route.
