I just found these while looking for a new set of panniers. The bags seemed to fit my needs so I purchased a pair at www.bikesomewhere.com for $99.95 shipped (MSRP appears to be about $120).

I searched the forums but didn't see these mentioned anywhere (says "new 2007" on the Topeak website and I haven't seen them before). Just thought I'd let everybody know these are out there, and find out if anybody uses these bags and/or has any opinions.

Currently my only bags are a Topeak MTX trunk bag with the expandable panniers, and a Transit Metro trunk bag (the small one). I really like both of these bags. The expandable panniers on the MTX are great for those trips through the drive thru on the way home from work :). The Metro bag is just the right size for my summer commute, when I don't have to carry as much stuff. I was looking for larger, single compartment bags to hold the large, puffy jacket I use at work in the winter, among other things. The claimed waterproofness is only an added bonus for me; I wasn't even looking for waterproof bags when I first started shopping.

They look really nice. In general, I'm impressed w/t Topeak products as they seem to design very well thought out gear. I'd still run a bead of 'satin finish' polyurethane on the outside and inside seams though. Maybe even clear caulking, too. The viscosity of water is relentless. I've got a set of Jandd expandable Mtn panniers I'd gladly swap for the ones you posted. The Road/Mountain morph pumps w/guage are a must have for any serious tourer/commuter/utility cyclist.

Please, post back and let us know re the true 'waterproofness' of the bags as I'm looking for a set myself for this winter. Currently. I'm using Jandd Saddlebags on my #1 commuter and some old Cannondale front bags mounted rearward on my #2 commuter w/a Sunlite trunk bag. None of which are waterproofed...I just use plastic bags around clothing when I've got to haul stuff. :)

Well I finally got to ride in the rain with these bags, and I am very happy with their performance.

My ride to work today was a little over 4 miles, traveling mostly south and occasionally west, into a 20+mph SSW wind with gusts that were sending the rain sideways (I was very happy to have a visor on my helmet...when the big gusts came I could look down and keep the rain out of my eyes :)). The temperature was in the high 50s, so I decided to just wear some cycling shorts/jersey and get wet/change into dry clothes at work (trusting the bag to keep the change of clothes dry during the ride).

Both panniers were full. I was carrying the following:

-1 pair 8" work boots
-1 puffy nylon uniform bomber jacket, size L
-1 short sleeve collared uniform shirt (poly/cotton blend), size L
-1 clip on tie
-1 acrylic beanie
-1 pair Dickies work pants, size 36x29
-1 ANSI Class 3 reflective windbreaker, size L
-1 cotton undershirt, size L
-1 pr cotton socks
-1 pr Andiamo padded cycling underwear (for the ride home)
-Topeak Alien II Multi-Tool
-Powerizer compact AA/AAA battery charger
-Assorted spare parts/patch kit/tube in empty Gatorade powder container
-Assorted small items (watch, garage door opener, cell phone, spare change)

On the website, the black/silver color scheme makes it look like there might be a problem for waterproofness where the different materials come together, but the interior of the bag is all the silver material, which feels to me like an extra-thick plastic bag type material (definitely waterproof).

I really like the attachment system as well. They click on and off the rack quickly and easily, just like the Topeak trunk bag I have.

I have also used these bags for groceries when it wasn't raining. I left the top open for extra capacity, and was able to fit $40 worth of groceries in them (versus about $30 on an average trip with the Topeak MTX trunk bag with expandable panniers). I wish I had taken some pictures with the groceries in them. If anybody would like to see what they look like after a grocery trip I can take some pictures next time.

I am very happy with my purchase and in my opinion (with very limited experience in the world of bike bags) these bags are a great value at $99.95/pair. I think the best way to sum it up would be...they hold alot of stuff, and keep it dry like they say they're going to :)

It's been a while since the original post. Anybody else have any experiences to share? Anybody considering the bags have any specific questions I may be able to help with?

I have a Topeak OS rack with the lock and 3 Topeak bags (#4 is on the way by mail). I've looked at the Topeak Drybag on their website, can't find them in the stores yet, and it's still a possible future purchase. In the meantime, yesterday, I bought a set of InTransit small waterproof panniers. Now all I have to do is get up the courage to drop my laptop in the bag and see how well that works. GULP! Sounds like it's time for me to do another thread and poll.

Another great set of panniers are the Axiom Cartier Rear Panniers 1220 Cubic Inches Black/Silver. They are expandable and have reflective striping and rear zippered pouches. Not sure if you are still active on the forums or will see this, but I have been looking to get a set of pannier bags that I could use along with my Topeak Rack and Trunkbag. I read your posting about having all of that and just wanted to know if you could mount the pannier bags and trunk bag at the same time. I have some clip on pannier baskets, but they interfere with the trunkbag and I can't use them simultaneously.

Thanks for posting the link to the current version. Anybody know if you can use this on the Topeak rack with this trunkbag Topeak® Cycling Accessories ? Products - MTX TrunkBag EXP at the same time, or if the pannier drybags interfere with the
mounting rail?

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but I have been trying to solve the pannier/trunk bag harmony issue for a while and I haven't been able to get an answer one way or another about bags I could use with the rack and trunk bag I already own. This thread came up on a google search and the OP is the only person I have found a reference to who has both the same trunk bag I do and the panniers I was considering. I suppose I could just order them and return them if it doesn't work, but I wanted to save myself a little trouble.
