Dinotte tail light with trunk bag?
 

Ive been wanting to buy this super bright taillight, but i've been waiting for Dinotte to provide more mounting options. When i ride at night I always ride with my topeak trunk bag, so mounting on the seatpost doesn't work. Ideally I'd like to mount the light to the end of the rear rack. Also, ideally it would have a quick release clamp, so if I had to run in a store on an errand, I wouldn't have to leave it on the bike.

Has anyone made a 'Do it yourself' mount like this? And by the way, if you agree, how about sending Dinotte an email saying you want more mounting options? The more complaints they get, the more they might do something. thanks

I use a rack bag with the same tail light. What I did was, I got a piece of 1" aluminum tubing ~10 inches long and mounted it to the underside of the rack, as far rearward as possible. The Dinotte o-ring mount works perfectly with this. The tubing extends to the left side of the bike, btw, so to drivers I appear farther left than I really am.

I used "p-clips" w/nuts & bolts to mount the tube to the rack. I even found some black plastic plugs to fit into the ends of the tube. (Check the specialty hardware section at Lowe's.)

You are right. This thing is hard to mount on a tail bag and have it end up pointing straight back reliably. I have the same problem. So far I am using my Planet Bike SuperFlash while I work this out. I have tried this:

But I carry panniers on my commute so that's not going to work either.

I am sure some clever person has an inspired answer for this.

Mount it on your helmet?

I managed to attach the battery pack and tail lamp on my helmet with the standard 140AA equipment for use with seat posts.

Rear Rack Mount
 

I mounted a Control Tech Handlebar computer mount upside down on the rear rack. You can then just use the "o" ring mount or as in this picture use the Hurricane pump mounts attached to the Control Tech. This allows me to clip in 2 Dinottes.

I double loop the o-ring around the rear bar of the rack and put the DiNotte underneath, upside down and the battery in the bag. Works on my Blackburn expedition and a little less well on my new topeak. I like the bar idea, but it's more stuff.

You don't need anything other than what comes in the box to mount your DiNotte on a rack.

First picture: This is how I have it mounted on mine. Using the standard, included straps, the battery pack is velcroed to a crossbar and resting on the fender. The light itself is attached to a rack leg using the standard O-ring, but looped around twice.

Next pic is a closeup of the light showing the double-wrapped O-ring mounting the light. I have it on the inside of the leg so it's protected and so I can still mount my panniers.

And a test I did before buying the taillight, using one of my DiNotte headlights. Here, because it was just a test, it's mounted on the outside of the rack leg.

See? Everything you need is in the box.

You guys are brilliant! I never thought of double wrapping the o-ring. I still would love a quick release mount. But I think i'll go ahead and order the light.

Ya know, I think I can contribute here. Now, this method is down and dirty but effective. I attached a piece of pvc pipe to the end of my delta rack. I attached an old night rider headlight mount so the battery pack can slide on then I placed the light just above the battery pack so it can't jump off. Check the pics:

I have a setup a bit different from abmtnbkr. I mount the light on a vertical PVC, but it's only about 2 inches long. I have washers the same diameter on each end, and I put a long bolt through the holes in them and a center hole in the rear of the rack. I just tightened up the contraption with a nut underneath the rack, and the light fits between that and the fender.
