Crash!
Well, I made it a whopping 200 yards on the ride home last night before crashing in fairly spectacular fashion. All my own work, I cornered rather too quickly and hit a slippery patch. The usual scrapes and bruises on the right side (knee, hip, elbow, ribs, hand...), plus I needed a trip to A&E to stitch up a nasty gash in my chin.
Luckily I was leaving work early, so everyone was still around. A big thanks to them for looking after me and to my wife for managing sympathy for a big twit like me when I finally got home.
Too stiff and sore to ride today, but I'm hoping to get back on soon. Need to check out the damage thoroughly, but it doesnt look too bad.
The rest of you.... ride safely!

BTW, what does A&E stand for, it's the second time I've heard it here. I assume it's like a hospital or doctor's office but just curious what it stands for.

A quick note to all accident victims: we love ya', we really do, we've pretty much all been there and wish you the best.
But think of the pain and suffering inflicted on the poor, helpless bike and please include damage reports on the bike with any accident report.

Thanks for the support and kind words everyone.
.... yes I managed to drop the bike on the right side. The first assessment of the bike (it would be my newer bike woudn't it) is not too bad. Wheels and frame are OK and the rear derailleur seems fine. Predictably, the bar tape is finished, there are some scratches on the bars themselves which needs to be checked properly and the STI shifters have taken a beating.
Luckily, this is where my stubborn and steadfast refusal to upgrade from Sora has proved to be a definate advantage! A new set of STI shifters will still set me back about 70 quid though... These things happen I suppose.
Fortunately, the only real casualty is pride and loss of a few riding days, so I can look on the bright side.

Do check that your cranks /pedals were not bent during the crash. A wonky pedal can quickly give you knee problems. I took a car-induced slide , the crank too the full force of the road and bent inwards. Also, beware of a bent bar, this can be weakened but will only fail a bit later.

Heal quickly, and be sure to double check that no spokes were broken in the crash.
