2 count em 2 new superflash blinkies

I scored two new planet bike superflash blinkies for Christmas one for each of my old Schwinns, SWEET I also got a gift certificate to my LBS and some cash from my mother in law (she's a peach) so I bought a Park cable cutter and some cone wrenches and other sundry items.

Nice! :) I got nothing to do with bikes for xmas as my wife HATES my hobbie with a passion, but lets me do it anyways :) (thats right, LETS, come on guys, be honest with yourselves)

My beloved redhead digs strong legs. I got an Ultimate Support workstand, a PI Vagabond jacket and an Oregon Scientific helmet cam with a 2g memory card.

HoustonGal 12-27-07 03:51 PM

Nice.

I got a Showers Pass jacket and an Arkel Bug pannier.

I have a superflash, mostly because of the praise from everyone on this forum. I never knew how good these are till yesteday while riding back from work. Saw the light flashing away and i couldnt even see the biker because he was so far away from me.

I got an all-in-one Park emergency toolkit from my son. My wife also hates my hobby & bikes. I finance most of the bigger purchases through flipping bikes on Craigslist. She hates that too.
Her attitude changed slightly on my commuting improved slightly when it allowed my daughter to have access to a car when she was home for summer.

BTW - someone dropped a pant size, dropped a belt size, and 20 lbs this year

stringbreaker 12-29-07 11:17 AM

Robtown why does the wife hate bikes so much?

max-a-mill 12-29-07 05:32 PM

my fiancee is a commuter herself and understands the need for the two nice smartwool shirts i got from her for christmas.

They take up too much of my time and energy. She's gotten upset about anything I've put time and effort into. Given the expensive and time consuming hobbies (and other distractions married men can get into) I think cycling is worth it.
The bikes have also made marks on the foyer wall when I leaned them temporarily on the way outside (from the basement).

My wife supports enough to have bought me a bunch of winter commuting gear! PI AMFIb booties, Lobster Claw gloves, new chamois tights and windpants! Also bought a helmet for our daughter for the bike trailer and got me a cyclo-puter!

My pops got me a PB Superblinkie AND a Cygolite Dual Cross! I was pretty stoked with that. My mother in-law got me a really nice reflective jacket from REI. Here I was looking at alertshirt for my favorite cheapie and she springs this badass one on me!

I made out like a bandit...

I'm just happy with good health and really don't feel I need much this year. I would like a winter cycling jacket, spring cycling jacket, cycling pants for wind/rain (not tights), all-weather cycling shoes, winter booties, summer rain booties, and a cycling vest.

No one in my family is really supportive of my cycling. Even as cycling for transportation it's seen as slow way to travel and a poorman's status thing. To them without a car it's like no status thing. My sister is a Dr. M.D and always talks about cars and such with what I gather as a 'status' thing. Dunno.. anyone here in the medical field that rides as well? I'm not riding a rusted out beater which people often think of when they think of the cyclist in T.O riding downtown in a rust bucket.

I find when I got the 2 x PB Blaze cars starting give some respect to a rider on the road as you're brighter then the typical no light or small light riders here. When I got the Dinotte tail light I noticed a change in drivers attitudes with instant respect on the road because of the bright light that was nearly a cars tail light.

Anyways, 95% of the cycling gear I have I get myself. I've only taken over a summer shell from my dad and that's about it.

Perhaps come spring when the reports here of the fuel prices rocketing and reaching new highs this summer may get them to back off on me and try alternative modes of transportation then keep bending over and taking it fromt he oil barons and always complaining about how much they spent on petrol or how much petrol costs.

Sorry for the slight rant off there.. I just had to get some stuff off before I explode. Being snowed in for 3-4 months is not helping either.

I definitely don't get that kind of attitude from my family, and they're mostly upper to upper-middle class. My dad drives Audi, my in-laws Porsche, Land Rover and BMW (many cars, they're Michiganders) and my bro and sis drive Audis.

My brother lives 3 miles from where he's getting his PhD and drives every day. Ridiculous. I can't even convince him to walk, let alone ride, but he really respects what I do. This is the longest my commute has been, and the most dedicated to it I've been, so after a year of it religiously everyone has chipped in to get me "the right stuff," and I'm building myself a worthy bike with leftover parts.

Sorry to hear you get no support. I don't think it's a class thing, it's just personal perspectives. Everyone I know wishes they had the will to do it, but they're all weak and they know it ;)

Sad for you. My wife understands that it's important and makes a difference (green & financial to our life and our children's). As a side benefit, if I get whacked she gets a nice payout. -Hence the Oregon Scientific atc 2000 sd handlebar video camera that was in my stocking.

Got a bunch of winter cycling gear from both wife and mom. Props to the ladies in my life!!
Best was an Arrogant B*stard cycling jersey from Stone Brewing Co., a brew which both summarizes me and is quite tasty.

Superflashes are awesome. I have one on my trunk bag and one on my helmet.
