The old ILTB stopped posting in mid-December. ILTB-2 registered in December, and just appeared recently in the commuting forum. It's been suggested he registered as a new user to get around the ignore list. Or that he was banned and decided to get back on Bike Forums under a new name. Either way his actions brand him a troll even more than his posts do - if possible.

Especially to the posters on this list who "play nice" by "discussing bicycling" with posts that are made up entirely of mocking personal insults and "clever retorts." And can't recognize their own hypocrisy. Check your mirror out Mr. "Historian". Maybe you should change your moniker to The Smugster. You sure ain't Dick Tracy.

By all means, report to the moderators that the smug clique of Attack Dogs of Bicycling Correctness are out trying to stifle discussion (with their screeds and personal insults) that doesn't agree with their own Real viewpoint.

I respectfully disagree. Call me crazy but ILTB in either the original form or the current revised provides a refreshingly honest, albeit insensitive at times, perspective on issues from spandex to kickstands and bike lanes. ILTB represents the kind of stalwart cyclist that has been among our ranks since I first started cycling many years ago and I expect there will always be an ILTB or two among us. I appreciate his posts- even when I disagree or find their tone on the sharper side- they often keep me from taking myself too seriously or thinking that how I do things is the way everyone should do them.

And for those whose tastes differ there is always the ignore list but I'd say you're missing some good stuff- and, if nothing else, entertaining exchanges.:)

Contrarians make things interesting on forums. What we do not need is a bunch of folks standing around agreeing with each other all the time.

Yes. However posts like #56 in this thread happening all too much is why the original ILTB joined my ignore list. It got very rare that ILTB had anything constructive or destructive to say.

Hence the reason we have an ignore list. There are times I would put myself on it but...?

Whatz wrong with post #56? Hit too close to home for you and the others in attack dog clique who post messages that are nothing but snapping and snarling personal insults as "clever" retorts that display the the joy of mocking someone who posts messages that don't meet their standard of Real Commuter Correctness? Maybe you like better the "constructive" posts of your pals at messages #45,47, 50, 54 and 58?

You're right, and I suppose I wouldn't blame some. I did start with a bit of a disclaimer...and I feel I have a decent history as a good BF citizen...but you are right, and that was perhaps foolish.

What makes it more foolish is that as The Historian stated, I did loose my temper. And to make it worse, I knew I was loosing my temper, and I chose to go ahead and loose it despite that knowledge. So, ultimately, that makes me look even worse.

I agree. (That's actually funny given what you said...:D ) But I think we have plenty of contrarians on here without ILTBs angry input. Ask 10 people on this forum an opinion about anything, and you'll get a dozen opinions. I have, as this tongue-in-cheek thread was supposed to be making light of, seldom observed the members here nodding craniums in concert with each other. :)

You may be right. But, as stated...I can get a variety of illuminating and valuable perspectives on this board. Some I disagree with, some I roll my eyes at...and some have changed my cycling/commuting practices. In fact, without this board and all the knowledgeable and helpful people here, with all their diversity of opinions, I wouldn't be a successful bike commuter...heck, maybe I wouldn't even be a bike commuter.

In reference to the emphasis added line above...there are very few things that I do that I think everyone should do. Those things pretty much are limited to visibility (take measures to be very visible in the dark, ninja cyclists!!!!) and riding on the street. Like many though, I have lots of techniques which I feel are best for me, and thusly like to share. ILTB, with his as mentioned persecution complex, seems to believe that every opinion different from his own is both a personal attack, and an earnest effort to forcibly shape others into a form of cyclist that he has built up and mythologized into a mentally fleshed out nemesis and handy straw-man.

Hahaha... I commute on pure aluminium and Shimano... and have an old touring bike with steel frame and mix of components..... But, I'm pondering on a steel frame with campy for road....

I dunno, I think the commuting forum is nice, tame and friendly.

I like to bicycle! I am older than many on this thread, but not all (go to the 50+ Thread) on this forum, and am amused at the inability of many of us to laugh at ourselves or better yet laugh with someone else. After all, it isn't all about "My Feelings". Many seem to be very thin skinned and do not have the ability to agree to disagree in a mature manner and keep to the spirit of the sport, which is all about FUN.
