My City's Bike Plan (pdf)
I was searching around the cities website and came across this 'trail/cycling map'.
At first, with all the colours one may think 'wow, the city is on the right track', but once you see the amount of 'on road bike lanes', it's pitiful. The bike friendly streets are simply wider suburban roads. It's just a shame to see such a big city and very few on road bike lanes, especially when the space is available. http://www.mississaugacycling.ca/med...l_map_2006.pdf http://www.mississaugacycling.ca/med...l_map_2006.pdf |
Some Additional Bike Stats I found... Although the U.S is not on it, I assume it is the same as Canada's % if not slightly higher. It's my hope slowly that these numbers especially in N. America & Oz will only go up
In many countries around the world, cycling is a significant contributor to the transportation system. In many third-world countries it is the dominant form of personal transportation. Even in some European cities, cycling makes a substantial contribution to the overall transportation system. The table below presents some statistics about cycling in these countries and cities.
