How many of you have bike blogs or web pages?
I've been reading a lot of other peoples blogs and sites, and i've been thinking of making my own lately. I'm not exactly sure what i'd write, but it would be one more way to promote cycling.
So how the question to people is, how many of you have bike/commuter blogs that you write in, or web pages? Do you update them daily? Any good hosts for this?
Cheers

You probably already know about mine, so to your first question: Yes, I have a blog about bicycle commuting. I also write for commutebybike.com (with a bunch of others) and I have several NON-cycling related blogs and websites.
If you average my posting out, I post a little more than once per day on my bike commuting blog. I post about once a week on commutebybike, sometimes more.
Although I have numerous web servers at my disposal thanks to some side work I do, I chose to use blogspot, which is blogger.com. I say this: For personal stuff like a journal, stick with blogger. It's free. If I were building an actual industry/advice blog, I probably would have started out on my own server, possibly with WordPress or maybe wrote my own blogging engine like I did for one of my other sites.
A few things:
1) On my personal site, I write to write. It's mostly narrative style writing of the various and sundry adventures that happen to befall me on a seemingly daily basis.
2) I can find something to write about pretty much every day. Usually, it's a wordplay-filled ride report. How exciting can a ride report be on a daily commute with maybe 6 different routes to choose from? We'll just say that there have been a few rather interesting (and some painful) rides along the way.
3) Don't get offended by morons commenting. If they took time to comment and bash you, they also took time to read what you wrote. That's a good sign.
4) Consider paying a small fee for an actual domain name. I didn't bother with one for my bike blog, but www.h-i-r.net is also all hosted freely on Blogger, yet has a domain name that only costs like $10 per year. Small potatoes and looks better.

My website is about cycling ... mainly long distance cycling and touring ... but I occasionally make a comment about a bicycle facility which would apply to commuters ... like the bicycle storage facility I was quite taken with in Strasbourg.
https://www.machka.net
And I talk about that storage facility here: https://www.machka.net/pbp2007/2007_Post-PBP_3.htm

As for me, I have three blogs. My ride blog, which tracks my 140 some pound weight loss, and my bike learning curve - I never rode a bike in my life till December 2006, at age 40:
https://www.historian2wheels.blogspot.com/
My blog tracking preparations for my cross country ride in 2009:
https://pedalwestdestiny.blogspot.com/
And a shared blog tracking the adventures of the Neils On Wheels Bike Touring Team:

I have started one relatively recently, but it's not really cycling specific. It does have a lot of info on my new bike build, but I generally want to write to improve my writing skills (I write a lot of papers, science major). Anyway, it's got reef stuff, computer stuff, commuting stuff, whatever strikes me...

Last week was the tenth anniversary of my personal web site. It's changed and evolved tremendously over the years.
The last couple of years, it's mostly bikes, bikes, bikes...

My Girlfriend and I started a commuting/biking specific blog to log our adventures in loosing weight. We call it MuffinTopBikers.com. It was started to motivate each other into sticking with our routines.
I've been commuting off and on for more than a year, but only 5 weeks consistently and so far I've lost 11lbs. Summer (my girlfriend) just started and so far she is loving the ride in to work, not so much the ride home.
Our blog mainly is to post pics form our rides, notes about what happened, and general crap that comes to her or my mind. As embarrassing as it is, we will be taking monthly pictures with our "muffin top" pants on to gage our progress. Nothing like shoving my 38 inch waist into 32's.
We do have an ultimate goal of doing the pacific coast tour, and if things go well, possibly a european tour.
- Derrick
btw, so far only our parents visit our blog.

I don't have one and never will, but I do enjoy randomly coming across bicycle blogs, especially the ones with lots of photos.

This opens up a series of options. For myself I have only recently started making it a point to take care of things . You can find https://bike-journeys.blogspot.com along with a recent addition of https://writeit.hok-international.net and the most original https://hok-international.net. The plan is to continue publishing on cycling experiences and understandings.

Yeah, I'm a blog freak! See sig for current bike-oriented blog. Personal blog at https://bren.pintglass.org and video blog (kinda dormant) at https://yamhill.tv Shoots, I even started and sold a blog (slackermanager.com). "All about me" quasi-blog at https://brendonconnelly.com
For starters I recommend https://wordpress.com. It's got everything you need in the beginning, and just about everything you'll probably want as you grow into it.
If you really want to go whole hog, buy a year's worth of hosting at dreamhost.com and buy your own domain name. Dreamhost has a very nice "one click" installer/updater for WordPress software. Easy livin'.

My blog isn't usually about riding bikes but about living here in Costa Rica and our business reforesting. I do use a bike a lot and it will be mentioned at times. You can see the link to the blog from my signiture.

I had a blog at one time. I have nothing to say and my composition is the suck. So, no more.
Perhaps I should blog on ETL coding. Egads that would be exciting.

I have a blog. Sometimes I write about cycling, but it is not a dedicated 'bike blog.' I don't update it every day, or even every week.

Check mine out at https://kentuckybicycling.com.
I just put up a page surveying the commuter-bike market for 2008. It has mini-reviews and pictures of bikes from 12 manufacturers.
I review raingear, gloves & other stuff of interest to every-day cyclists.
I also have extensive info about the Breezer Uptown 8, which I own and love.
I use Lunarpages as a host, I highly recommend them. They pay for one domain name a year as long as you stay with them.

It makes me homesick for South Mountain. I did my MBA/MHSA at ASU 2002-2004 and rode South Mountain almost every day for those two years. I miss it so bad it hurts. That place beats Moab, in my opinion, for sheer technical fun.
Man, I will never forget all of the fun we had there. My favorite ride was an epic killer: East loop (Guadalupe entrance) to west loop to Javenlina to Mormon to National to Telegraph Pass to Desert Classic to that super steep pass that drops back down by where west loop comes out on the road (forget the name). About 23 miles total. You can have endless fun connecting trails at South Mountain.
Good luck on the muffin top thing. Your girlfriend is, as was often the case in phoenix, a hottie. She should not worry about being 30 too much. Looks like she is doing just fine

Mine (ours) is just specific to drumming up support for a ride some of us are doing in March.
