A blinking light prevents depth perception for most, especially if the driver of the vehicle is looking your way through glass. Never blink your only taillight after dark. It's best to run two taillights. One on steady for depth perception and a second blinking to make you more visible.

2x PB Superflash. One blinking, one steady.
When I get my dynohub, I'm adding a SuperNova E3 3-LED tail light, too.

I personally like running both steady & flashing, plus reflective on wheels & frame so hopefully oncoming / overtaking low-on-coffee, sleepy drivers will recognize me for what i am.

Usually both. If only one, then it's a flashin'.

Now that you have a poll ( I guess I hit thread too quick ), I see what you are getting at.

I have two PB superflash that are blinking (one on back of trunk bag, other on my backpack), and a regular 10-LED red tail light that is steady.

I run three of them on a homemade bracket, at the rear of my rack. I set the two outside ones on steady and the middle one to blink.

Having said that, my wife passed me one night and said that once she got fairly close, the headlights illuminated my reflectors and drowned out the blinking effect of the middle light. So, I feel that the reflective material is just as important as the lights, (I mean their "power" comes from a car's headlights which is much brighter than any blinkie).
First I cut the reflective tape into strips and wrapped it across my fender. Unfortunately, it doesn't flex all that well and it started coming up at the corners and breaking off. I got some more reflective tape and turned the kids loose on it with a 3-hole punch. These reflective dots gave me a much better way to cover more surface area.

Flashing.

My ideal setup (for the nighttime) would be a SuperFlash on flash and a Dinotte on solid. The problem is, one of my two commuters has seat stays too large to mount the Superflash to. I did put the stay mount on the fixie, but I've yet to remember to mount a light to it.

So, the Dinotte blinks away - day or night.

I've mentioned this before, but if I had it to do over again, I'd take two superflash any day over one dinotte. I'm not entirely sure why I insist on using the dinotte now... I should just put it back on ebay.

Nope, it all fits into a 12" long piece of 1" diameter PVC tubing. It draws only 250mA. It's bright, but not as bright as the 120 LED version I built before it. The 120 LED light was too long though, I kept smacking it on things. 12" is a much better compromise.

PBSF as a backup

I use the NR Universal Taillight on steady under seat bag and two generic blinkies. One high(helmet) and one low(on the end of the rack). 2 Standard driveway reflectors(red) on rear of bags and 2 (white) on the front. Reflective outerwear. ie jacket, pants, booties, gloves, etc. All kinds of reflective SOLAS strips on the frame, rims, etc. And, unapologetic Fred that I am I still have the spoke reflectors in both wheels. :eek: Deal with it.:p

During the holidays I had 2 strings of lights from Walgreen's. One steady, one blinking, multi colored. Got alot of honks, thumbs up and once a whole group of roadies asked me where I got 'those too cool lights'. Walgreen's should cut BF a check for royalties or something. :)

I have a PB SuperFlash on flash and another one on steady. The PB is on my bag and the steady is attached to the rack.

I use a PB SF on blink most of the time now, I carry a spare in cases of need.

On my normal commute I leave work while it's still light and I just use the steady (dynohub powered) light on my fender. If I'm riding later or in bad weather I have a TLD-1000 on my helmet and I set one bank to chasing and the other on steady. I also use a vest if I'm riding in the dark/dim since my coat is dark. Mainly though, I picked out roads to ride on that don't see a lot of high speed traffic.

Do you have a rear rack? That's where I mounted my PBSF, using the rubber strips as shims to make it snug.
