Met my first convert on the way to work this morning!

I tend to mix up my route quite a bit. About half the time if I am able to make a really ugly left I will take this longer route. I ran across the same commuter that I had waved to yesterday and he yells out "I started riding to work because of you!". So I pulled over and chatted with him a little. He has now been doing it now since june and lost a total of 90 pounds. He hardly takes the car out anymore.

I was thrilled. After unsuccessuflly trying to get some of my co-workers to ride, I converted a complete stranger!

Sometimes I optimistically think that we bicycle commuters affect more change than we see or hear about directly. It's nice to hear a confirmation of that. Cheers to you.

That's really quite cool. Hopefully someone will take a cue from him.

I continue to try to get my coworkers to commute to work. Almost all of my coworkers are college students and only live a few miles from work but I still haven't convinced anyone that they should give it a try. It is so odd to me that they will bike to class but won't to work. Oh well, maybe some day.

What is great is that it was just your presence that convinced them to try - no words needed. That does provide one data point that by being seen one can advocate.

The sight of a commuter cyclist every morning is a constant reminder that it's not impossible or too hard or too cold to cycle to work. It negates the usual excuses much better than words ever could.
