Condolences to us all. We've lost a great man. Maybe we should start a thread with all his "unique" nicknames.

Sheldon "it's not an upgrade" Brown is one I always liked when people say upgrade from a triple to a double.

+1

That's a great idea... collect all of his nicknames from his website, rec.bicycles.tech, and his forum posts!

He's in a place where cyclist rides on highway...devoid of cars.

We'll miss you greatly and continue to carry on your passion and knowledge.

Little write up over at BikeRadar. The portrait is a nice touch

So sad to hear. Sheldon taught me all about gear ratios, and with such passion and enthusiasm that only he could muster on such a subject. He will be greatly missed...

This is shocking. What a loss for the cycling community. His legacy, though, will live on for many and many years.

Sad, sad, sad.

Sheldon helped me out making my last bike, so tomorrows ride on my San Jos8 is dedicated to Sheldon.

What a huge loss.

Absolutely... the more I think about it, the more I realize how much of my cycling knowledge came from Sheldon Brown. Building wheels? From Sheldon. Trying out fixed gear? From Sheldon. Figuring out how to straighten bent cranks? From Sheldon. How to figure out the right length of BB spindle? More and more...

Sheldon "Boundless Enthusiasm and Knowledge" Brown. He was too modest to use that one, but I'd say it fit.

Very very sad. He was an amazing person. I wish I could have met him in person.

This story on digg
https://digg.com/other_sports/Sheldon..._BikeRadar_com
says he answered 500-1000 emails every day.
Wow. That guy was passionate.

He will live on forever in the memory of everyone he helped or inspired to become a better or more informed cyclist. I won't forget him.

The first time I saw him reply to a post in a thread I was reading it was like "Wow, I can't believe it".

He should be prominently remembered in some bicycling hall of fame somewhere.

I hope he enjoys his time off from being human. I wonder what he'll be in his next life? Maybe he'll be a great engineer who invents some super form of personal transportation that everyone will use.

Pleasant journeys Sheldon Brown.

I already wrote a response in the Foo thread, but I'd like to second the suggestion that his nicknames be gathered up and posted together. The idea made me smile when I read it.

RIP Sheldon.
