My new commuter.

I bought a Specilized Rockhopper (88,89) out of the paper for $25. I took everything off and painted the frame(had some small rust spots). I was amazed at how well it has held up. It has Exage 500 LX components. A good set of wheels with Shimano FH-HG50 hubs. I have ordered new cables, tires, and grips. It came with a brand new set of Psycho-II tires. I have been riding my Felt to work and it is not the best for the job. Well I just wanted to share my new(old) bike with everyone. I think it is going to be a great commuter.

That looks like a great commuter. I ride an old GT timberline (no suspension) for commuting and it works great. Nice ride.

Should be awesome. :D

Beater commuter bikes are always great - much less attractive to thieves than a flashy roadie....

My mother died giving birth to my twin sister. I hate her for killing my mom!

Just kidding. :D

Actually that is my 4 year old son's sock, I will have to have a talk with him. ;)

That's great. That's exactly the kind of bike I'd like to get for rainy commutes and pulling a trailer. I better start scanning the classifieds.

sweet ride

thats an awesome bike to convert to a singlespeed. for some reason back then specialized thought it was a good idea to have semi-horizontal drops and a derailluer hanger. my SS MTB is an old specialized hard rock....you should find another commuter and make the specialized your SS!!!!!

If you need a headtube sticker I got plenty. What's wrong sissy boy, that felt too nice to ride to work now. I could have made you a deal on an old Trek 1200. Somewhere around $1165.00.

You need another seat? I got an old Vetta TT and that Diamondback with a cutout.

Nice ride. And I agree with legalize_it, that would look great with just one gear. Most bikes do...

Yeah that would be a good price. I wonder what you would do with the money?

Would you get that white bike with the carbon stays?

Just put the finishing touches on my "convert," an old Univega. I slapped a new San Marco seat on it, and an old rack. Need to add refelctor tape, a mirror. I would like to get a new crank for it, seems to be on the short side, and I have taken an old road cassette for the rear end with the street slick tyres. Will be a sweet ride. I'll have to post the pics.

Thin tires

How about thin tires man?! If that's my bike I'd put the equivalent of 700x25C or 28C. I just like a little faster that that if you catch my drift.

Already done. I didn't mention that in the first post. I now have slicks, a new seat and new grips. The first day I rode it to work the chain snapped. I was able to fix it on the side of the road and finish my commute. Now I have a new chain and cheap computer coming. :D
