The best lock in the world is useless unless you know how to properly lock up your bike. Bike commuting seems to have really picked up in the last year and I've noticed that some bike owners have these huge locks safeguarding just the frame, leaving the wheels open for theft. Even if your wheels use a nut, lock them because it only takes a few seconds to remove the wheel with an open end wrench.
Whatever lock you get, spend a few minutes with the shop who sold it to you to learn how best to secure you bike. |

Freeze up, as in temperature affected?
Or freeze up, as in mechanically seized? I've been using an OnGuard Rottweiller armoured cable for a couple years (low-crime lockups) and I've never had a problem with the mechanism. But, we don't get the freezing sub-zero temps that many places get. Lowest I've locked in was probably low 30s and drizzling rain. |

I have found it quite hard to get my key into my OnGuard sometimes. I spray WD40 in it once a week or so.
