Cool bike or Ugly bike

If one can attach some kind of container, it might even be a decent commuter assume one can have a place to lock it real good. A bike like this is a thief magnet.

I used to have a Schwinn just like it when I was a kid - though mine had a big ole spring shock on the front. I spray painted the frame primer gray, yanked the fenders & chain guard, flipped the handlebars and rode that bike everywhere, including to/from school and bombing down bridle paths. Never had to lock it...everyone was stealing ten-speeds and didn't bother with my mofugly tank. Man, I loved that bike.

The cooler the bike the more people will want it. Even though I like that kind of bicycle I would only ride it for whimsical reasons when the mood strikes, on the other hand who really wants an ugly bike.
